Hi guys, thanks!
The reason i thought it might be a bad time was all the people who get the running bug after FLM! bit like playing tennis while Wimbledon is on!
Still i am determined this will work for me, so watch this space!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Hi All
Im another who would like to join the running club. Have always loved running but over the last couple of years become a couch potato, so now is the time to get out there again. I too am doing the RFL and know I could probably manage this now..just but want to be able to also do a 10k run which is in August. My Sis is doing the FLM this weekend and she has been a true inspiration to me getting my !!!! in gear. This time last year she was 5 stone overweight and on sunday she like many of you will be donning her kit and running for the NSPCC. I would love to be able to join her next year (she has the running bug now) so here I am.I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Welcome Maz & Sally, and good luck with your training! I'm the lazier one of the group who's walking rather than running at the moment as I'm training for the Moonwalk (walking marathon) in June... but planning to get back into running after that.
Talking of walking, been doing a steady 4-5 miles a day this week either before or after work, meant to be doing 16 at the weekend but not worked out a route yet, feeling a bit tired and grumpy at the mo so it's going to take a big effort to get out :rolleyes:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I love the space and time that going out for a walk gives you, but i'm only doing 3 miles at the mo, and will probably stay at 3 miles until running it all. might, and only might up it after that.redsquirrel80 wrote: »Welcome Maz & Sally, and good luck with your training! 26 miles is not bleeding lazy!!!! I'm not sure how i could work out a 16 miler either... that would be hard going unless you live in a rural area and can maybe walk from one village to the next? 16miles round town would be tough.
Do people plan their miles in their cars using trip counter? Or is there an online thing to use?I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

Know exactly what you mean about the space and time
I live in a city - did 14 miles the other week following a planned walk that I found a leaflet for (mostly pavement but a few paths), have done a couple of 10 milers but am getting bored going round the same bits of town!
I've used this http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/exercise/walking/route-map.htm to plan some though it's a bit fiddly. Tend to just measure it out on a paper map with a tape measure these days (and take the map out in case I get lost).

I can understand that! However I remember at the time of the 2004 London Marathon I told my colleague (also a runner) that I am definately running it next year - and did. The difference between FLM along with similar events and Wimbledon is that there are competitors of all levels, all with stories similar to ourselves on this thread, so is really inspiring. By the time the next Marathon comes round (whether you choose to do this event or not - it doesn't matter either way) Just look back and see how much you have improved as a runner. I am pretty sure that you will be suprised“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
