That is not good news. Fingers and everything else crossed. I know what is like to have to pull out. I had to do it with the Edinburgh Marathon last year.
I suffered on Tuesday - ran for 2.25 hours and could not walk afterwards, so I feared the worst. I have just returned from a 70 minute and have felt no ill effects.

  • Its no better, and now have 20 days of complete rest to see if it helps

If I do it the marathon will be a jog around now, will have to take it really slow

    That must be really disappointing.

Sorry to hear that SW, fingers crossed that it sorts itself out soon.

I'm pretty much getting into the stride (ahem ) of my walking training, I get really restless now if I've not been out for a couple of days! I am finding it quite time consuming though, after the Moonwalk I may get back into running just to save some time! ;) New trainers have made an incredible difference, no more achy knees... I have got sore feet at the mo, but I suspect that may be more to do with a rather long gin-fuelled dancing session at the weekend :o

  • Hope things work out ok SW, its so frustrating to have plans thwarted at the last minute. 20 days of rest will be hard on you, try your best to do things to take your mind off it.

I am mainly a lurker on this thread but have been doing 5-6 miles 3 times a weeek for a while now.
  • Can I join in?

For any of you who have seen my thread you will know that I am in the midst of a life LBM.

One of the things I need to get on top of is my health and fitness, so I have decided to start running. I did a bit of jog/walking a few years ago, and completed the Great South Run twice, two half marathons (came last in the first one) and the '05 London Marathon (in a ridiculously slow 7hrs 10 mins). I enjoyed it but didn't train much. I did find that having a race at the end did make me go out a bit more.

So I have entered the London 10K in July and have the goal of actually running all of it. I did my first bit of training today (we have a free gym in our block of flats) using a podcast 'from couch to 5K'. I'm a bit tired now but it didn't kill me - so that's a bonus! :j

Good luck to all of you with big races in the near future, and to all of those like me at the start of it all.

  • *creeping in here in disguise*

I was posting here before but had to change my username  don't think it's too difficult to guess who I am though....

SW - so sorry to hear the injury is no better, but you may surprise yourself on the day - I have started my taper now and as they say it is better to be under trained than over trained. Knowing you I guess you are still doing something whether it be cross training, swimming etc and all this will make a difference. Will keep everything crossed for you as I can imagine how gutted you must feel but it isn't a write off by any means!

ISOM - how are you feeling now, are you waiting for the go ahead to exercise by the consultant, hopefully no more burst stitches though.

FMOW - well done on your secret exercise, bet you are so pleased with yourself :T

RS - glad your trainers have made a difference, told you they would :p but :rotfl: at the reasons your feet hurt!

PC- welcome aboard and look forward to reading your posts.

CJ - fab run, I forgot are you doing the FLM as well?

*phew* that everyone done, now about me :rotfl: ..... did 20 miles on Saturday in sleet, snow and hail :j felt knackered afterwards but could still walk, god only knows how I'll manage another 6 miles but there's always walking I guess.
