Have made a pact with a mate to do next year's Great North Run - I think 11 months is long enough to get fit (please remind me of this statement next year when I've not done enough training
:rotfl:)
Oh and I missed the rugby, damn - my home country are out but at least my adopted country are through!
The first time I ran the London Marathon I gave myself 12 months after having not done any running for 2 or 3 years. 11 months is ample time especially if you already have a good base level of fitness as I suspect you have.“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
:hello: good to see everyone back running again. I've still kept it up since the GNR and have entered into a local 10 miles, Bath half marathon and going to try and get in the London Marathon
The GNR really showed me what I was capable of and we seem to have raised our game so to speak. Went out at 8am today and did 10 miles at a really really steady pace and enjoyed it. I'm no longer obsessed with how long it takes me just how much I enjoy it
Foolishly then went for a walk with DH and the kids - we ended up going 8 miles and it took us 4 hours  Bless DD she walked all the way and DS had a lot of piggy backs but my bum is now killing me - bizarre! So am now sat with a glass of rose and going to snooze shortly. It was also very DFW as we had a very cheap day save for a couple of pints of magners
RS - you will definately be fine for GNR, there was a training plan we followed on line for a half marathon and it really set us in good stead. Hopefully meet you there next year!0 -
hi there all!! well the app is in the for the half marathon so need to get on with it!! wow what a busy day BA, very err, fitness orientated!! wierd about the bum though!! maybe something to do with different muscles used when walking than those used when running!!
Rose, mmmm, chuck us a glass!! xxxdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
guys, can I join you? I really need to take up some form of exercise that doesn't cost anything. I have some Nike running shoes, but to be honest, I have no idea where to start!? Any tips?

Hi slowlyfading - jump aboard

Have you done much running before? When I started I just mixed running and walking, say run for 30 seconds, walk for 90 seconds and did this for 20 mins. As I felt better I ran for longer and walked for less. TBH I felt stupid at the beginning incase anyone saw me and thought lazy c0w but it definately worked.
Also make sure you have a good pair of trainers, definately makes the difference. Always warm up with a few minutes of walking as well, always stretch and just take it easy, do as much as you feel.....
Good luck x0 -
I used to do cross country at school, but that was a good 6 years ago! I'll do what you suggest
I do have some running shoes so I presume they'll be okay? thanks for letting me join in! My aim for this is just to be generally fitter, and lose a bit of weight in the process! x Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Usually anyone who has run in the past tends to make quick progress because they have a greater understanding of what they are capable of, and what they need to do to get there.
Dont overdo it though and good luck!
