pjran - what flight alternatives did RA offer?
The additional accomodation costs are RA's responsibilty - keeps receipts and claim.
Make sure all the flight costs are refunded, no deductions for anything. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Complete rubbish. You are being fobbed off. How can a flight that hasn't departed be damaged by a bird?
Even if it was hit by a bird whilst it was on stand, it wouldn't take 25 hours to sort out. Did BA even try and get you on another flight?
Bah!
Or the alternative, hit by a vehicle, still is BA's problem to sort out. They have a third party claim against the vehicle if it's true.
Read vaubans Guide. If you don't fancy it, go NWNF.
But realistically the time is now up to issue 14 days notice that you are going to take it to court.0 -

Thanks for this. I understood the concept of plane-damaged-by-vehicle, even if stationary - but plane-damaged-by-bird didn't make a lot of sense... although reading MSE apparently it happens more often than I thought!
I have read Vauban's guide - kudos to the author(s) - but wasn't quite sure how the bird affected things. BA didn't attempt to get me on another flight - they told me 3 hours before scheduled departure time that it was cancelled/delayed for 24 hours, and none of the passengers affected could get any info out of them the following day as we couldn't get through on the phone.
Does anyone have any stats or guesstimates on how often passenger wins when birds are involved? Having read other posts it seems like a lottery...0 -

I beat Thomson in Court over a birdstrike defence (before the Ash v Thomas Cook case noted below).
It is worth finding out if a birdstike actually occured. If it does then it must be reported to the CAA
Some research for you to do (worth following the links within the links too):

In any case it was not on your flight so a birdstrike defence is very dodgy (in my opinion) but I know others who post on here from time to time that disagree with me.The above is just my opinon - which counts for nowt! You must make up your own mind.0 -

Mark2spark is on the money there too.

Hi all
Please help as we are very confused!!
We flew to NYC last year via British Airways with no bother. We were caught up in a blizzard and American Airlines cancelled our original direct flight back to Manchester for 2 days. We were told by the airline that we would have to make our way to JFK to find alternative accommodation for these 2 nights. We did not want to leave out hotel and get all the way to JFK (Roads were closed) and be stick in the airport so we managed to stay in our original room which I had to pay for. We have travel insurance through our bank, Halifax who would not meet the cost of the hotel.
When we did get a flight out of JFK this was to Heathrow and when we arrived our flight had been delayed but we weren't told why at first and were each given a £5 food voucher. I think we were delayed around 4 hours or so all in all. We got to Heathrow and were due to leave around 11am but did not leave for Manchester until 3.30-4pmish. We originally boarded one plane at Heathrow and were waiting on there for an hour then told the flight was cancelled and we were to leave the aircraft and await another flight in to Manchester. We then found out that the snow was really bad at Manchester.
I have since been in touch with American Airlines who haven't compensated us. The original booking was made via BA and AA were the carrier on the return originally anyway.
Do you think there is anything we could claim at all?0
