Because that's what the guide to claiming on the main site says to do!! Everywhere States that it's important to follow the correct protocol and I believe the caa is no 4 on martins guide - maybe this should be changed? It was months ago that I contacted them - before I started thinking about legal action and therefore reading this forum.
I agree with you; it should. There's lots of rubbish on this guide - including that if your case is over six years you can still claim but it will be "tricky".
The advice from those on this forum, who've actually gone through the process and won their compensation, is not to touch the CAA. They are in cahoots with the airlines. As the CAA's website admits, "the CAA’s costs are met entirely from its charges on those whom it regulates". Go figure!0 -

Well I guess I will have to hope for a sympathetic judge that looks at the case on it's merit, not just the CAA ruling - either that or that United don't complete their directions questionnaire in time so they rule in our favour that way!!0 -
Just a little update on my case, unfortunately the CAA have ruled that the weather the previous day to our flight does count as extraordinary circumstances to our delay.
I'm fascinated to know how they can conclude that when the Regulation is quite explicit on the point. Do they even attempt to relate that "decision" to the law or is it just the usual coin toss?0 -
Hi All
New to this so apologies if I'm in the wrong thread/forum.
I am trying to start a compensation claim for a delayed flight from Manchester to Corfu in July 2011.
We arrived in Corfu 12 hours later than scheduled.
There was little explanation and eventually discovered our plane was grounded in Naples? and we would have to wait for a replacement ro be flown to manchester.
My problem is I cannot find any direct email addressfor olympic air. I know they changed from olympic airways in 2009 to olympic air but I can't find a way of contacting them to start the compensation procedure.
I have a copy of my original booking form from the travel agents with flight numbers on (which also I cant trace on the fly stats website).
I at a loss as to what to do?
Has any one else made a claim through this airline?
I would appreciate any help
*update from questions..
I have emailed Olympic Air via there auto response system and still no reply.
I have emailed the company that own Olympic Air (Marfin Group) that got thrown back via postmaster as undelivered.
It was definately Olympic Air we had our flights through -
Flight number OAI283
out bound Manchester to Corfu.
I think Olympic had a fall out with Monarch back in 2011 over prices so were using Tor Air? It was Tor Air we flew back with but the flight out the Tor Air plane never arrived and they sent i think a italian or spanish flight to us.
Can someone please shed some light as to where I can send my compensation letter/email?
Someone must have flown with Olympic Air in 2011..
struggling here..0 -

the only posts (by using the search) that reference Olympic were actually on Small Planet so people have made their claim to SPA not Olympic
OAI airline code refers to Omni Air International which is an American Charter airline
Olympic Air was OAL now 100% owned by Aegean0 -

OAI is definately Olympic Air - they definately used Monarch and Tor Air -
I googled OAI283 Man to Corfu 29 Jul and found a few sites
regarding the delay.
A man called Nigel on this page talks about the flight delay on Tor Air on agni.gr web site.
I discovered that the plane we were waiting for in Manchester was in Preveza for 24 hours grounded (on a topic on trip advisor)
It's not the american airline, its the Greece one.
So do I put my claim in with Olympic Air or Tor Air?
and if it is Olympic thats the problem I'm having... Contacting them as the auto reply system seems to not have any effect.0 -

I know - even more frustrating is the fact we can't appeal against their decision or even enter into any correspondence with them. Just have to hope we have a judge who will look a bit further than the CAA !0 -

I assure you OAL was Olympic (not OAI) you can check yourself here http://www.airlineupdate.com/content_public/codes/airlinecodes/icaocodes/icao_o.htm
you put your claim in against the airline operating the flight
If this was Tor Air then you have no claim as they folded in Dec 2011
If it was a Monarch plane you claim against them
if you are sure it was an Olympic aircraft then use the phone number or email on their website or you could try through social media (although most posts are in Greek)0 -
I have found several posts from people saying they are flying with Olympic air with flight codes the same/similar as mine was.
like..

We were originally flying with Olympic Airways, flight no OAI363.. We booked flight & accommodation throught directline holidays.
So it is definately Olympic Air
It is very confusing and it seems the airline for OAI is related to Olympic Air but they chartered the flights with Tor and Monarch.0 -
Flew with Gulf air 1st August. Booked London - Bangkok which meant a changeover in Bahrain. 6 hour transit wait. We didn't book as 2 seperate flights, booked as one. 1 booking reference for checking into the flights. The onward flight Bahrain - Bangkok was delayed by 14 hours. We were given a hotel and food during the delay.
Reply back from Gulf Air today, after sending the template letter
"Unfortunately, flight GF152 was delayed due to operational reasons. .... ...We would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the European Regulations EC261 apply to all European carriers or in the case of Non-European carriers such as Gulf Air, they are applicable to all departures from within the European Union only and as a result, we regret we not able to meet with your request."
My question is, was my departure from the UK or not? Does a transit change of planes in Bahrain mean the delay doesn't meet the EU regulations? I can't find an answer anywhere on google. Sent the letter to see what Gulf Air would do and not sure if their response is correct or not as it was 1 booking London - Bangkok.
