  • Our flight was cancelled due to the French Air Control strike on a Tuesday, the next available flight to Luton was not until Monday, so we had to take a flight to Dublin and then another flight to Luton on the Thursday.

There is no compensation from the airline or our insurance, we fortunately did not need to pay for accommodation, but there were other people who were just left stranded. It seems very unfair that there is no come back at all in these situations.

    Another cancelled Easyjet flight :(

I cliamed the 250 euros compensation from them and received the following today from them:

"I am also aware that you have claimed for the EU compensation for the cancelled flight EZY8667 departing 24th September. I would like to inform you that in some circumstances passengers may be entitled to compensation under European Union laws. However, any award is subject to certain criteria being met. Our records show that the cause of the disruption to your flight was technical (Aircraft on ground). Such an event constitutes an ‘extraordinary circumstance’ under the governing regulation, that is, the occurrence was outside the reasonable control of the airline. For this reason, I regret to inform you that I am unable to agree to your claim for compensation. "

I thought this was a straight forward technical problem i.e. plane broken, no replacement, compensation is due?

Yes, you are right, but try telling that to Easyjet!
  • In January my flight from Manchester to Geneva was cancelled and they transferred me to a flight the following day from Liverpool. This resulted in me incurring airport parking charges at Liverpool, extra car hire fees at Geneva. Easyjet refused to refund my additional expenses. The AUC tried but could not get easyjet to cough up. Last month I issued a claim using Money Claim On line service and today easyjet has paid up. It only costs £25 to use the service and you can recover that in the claim process. Easyjet just calculate that 95% won't go through the courts.:j

Well done for your persistence, and thank you for sharing your experience.

Did you simply claim your additional expenses, or the standard compensation for a cancelled flight?
  • This isn't in response to anyone else's thread, but am trying to find out my rights as a passengers. I was on a flight with Monarch to Corfu, which was delayed for nearly 28 hours. have been told by the airline that I wont be getting any compensation from them, and a mere £30 from my travel insurance.

Any advise that I can be given will be greatly received.

    Thanks

    Martin

One of the definitions in EC 261/2004 is

    (l) "cancellation" means the non-operation of a flight which was previously planned and on which at least one place was reserved.

Do they mean planned to include re-planned? ie original time 19.30 and re-planned time 22.00?

So does the regulation still apply to re-scheduled flights?

i.e. if the re-scheduled flight at 22.00 is subsequently cancelled at short notice does the regulation still apply?

Did you eventually travel on the same flight number as the original booking? If the flight number was different, then your original flight was cancelled, you suffered a cancellation rather than a delay, and you have a right to compensation (you are not affected by the current 'stay' on claims).

Note that you have a right to "care" as well as possibly compensation. So if you needed to spend money on food and drink (not alcohol), accommodation and telephone calls during the delay, you have a right to claim this back.

The re-scheduled flight had the same flight number and was cancelled at short notice.
