  • Thank you. I will read through it.
  • My daughter was due to fly from Nice to Liverpool today. The flight has been cancelled as a result of yesterdays strike in France. Easyjet have offered another flight over a week away, next Saturday. This has been accepted as the cheapest way of getting back. She is staying with a friend.

I picked this up from the Daily telegraphs web site:
Passengers whose flights are cancelled will be entitled to book on the next available departure, free of charge. Under EU compensation regulations they will also be able to claim the cost of necessary overnight accommodation and food.

Other sources seem to suggest a strike is not covered by the compensation rules.
Is she entitiled to any compensation?
If so what does she need to do?
    Thanks

You need to distinguish between 'compensation' and 'assistance'

She is not entitled to compensation

She is entitled to assistance - ie meals and accommodation

    OK Thanks.
How do I determine what level of assistance. Is it a fixed amount per day or do we need to produce receipts?
Also, do we claim now or when she is back?
I presume she will need a form of some sort from EJ.

Most airlines arrange it for you - sounds like easyjet don't. You'll need to produce receipts - when you get back.

Thanks for all the help. As a result I have spoken to the airline and got her on the flight this Sunday and they have offered hotel accomodation. They didnt know why this flight hadnt been offered in the first place other than perhaps it wasnt available earlier. None of the passengers that my daughter spoke to at Nice Airport was offered this option or any other option prior to the 1st October!
I will look at the claim side once she is back here.

    Thanks again.

FYI This flight is still showing as scheduled on EJ's flightchecker website!
  • Hi any help or information would be great.

On Tuesday we flew to Paris Beauvais, we were supposed to land at 9.05 a.m. when we were landing there was poor visability so the pilot flew to Charleroi airport in Brussels. We were told there would be coaches outside to take us to Paris Beauvais. When we went outside no one from this airline was there to help and left us standing for an hour and a half until the coaches turned up. The coach journey was 3 hours. We were meant to be in Paris Beauvais at 9.05 a.m. but we did not arrive until 15.30 p.m. Would I be entitled to compensation for this? We were 6 hours 30 mins late.
  • Thanks for that. I would of thought Ryanair could land at a closer airport instead of a 3 hour journey away. Anyways one more for you below...

Our flight home was cancelled last night due to the strike. We got the next available flight which was this morning at 9.30 a.m.. We stayed in hotel last night, i take it we should get expenses off Ryanair for hotel accomodation and food etc.??

    Thanks for that.
  • Thanks cityboy you have been a great help.

I suspect it's the nearest airport at which they have landing rights - or unaffected by the fog
