Hi, this is the first ever time i've posted in a forum so I apologise if it's in the wrong place but I just wanted to let people know that I have today received an email from Thomas Cook containing a £703 compensation voucher. This was after sending a letter of complaint (using Martin's template) for our flight in 2009 (I think) from Turkey to Manchester that was delayed around 8.5hours. There were 2 passengers in my party (£351.50 each). I didn't expect the process to go so smoothly but T.C. were very prompt and helpful. Thanks Martin!!

I used the template letter to claim compensation for a 4.5 hr delay with Thomas Cook from Manchester to Holguin, Cuba. They replied within about 5 days to say they had opened an investigation and would be in touch. I waited exactly 2 weeks before e-mailing them enquiring how my case was going, stating that it was straight forward & if I did not get a satisfactory result to my case within 14 days, I would take it further & may take it to court. I received an e-mail a few days later with a voucher for £525 each. (£1050). Well done to Thomas Cook for their prompt response & thanks Martin. It will go towards another great holiday next year as it is valid for 12 months.

You two were unusually lucky. Is it possible for you to scan your offer letters on here please with details of the flight numbers?
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!

:rotfl:maybe they want to get the score on a more even keel and perhaps try for a penalty shoot out. NOT
  • I am just reading the comments about delayed flights. Can anyone tell me if a 2 hour delay due (initially) to bad weather would qualify for any compensation? We were delayed by Thomas Cook last month flying back from Cyprus at around 6pm. The weather was bad in the UK in the morning which delayed the plane throughout the day (domino effect) but I can't see how the airline can be held responsible for the weather - although I guess they could have despatched another plane? Any help much appreciated.:o

It has to be a 3hour plus delay for a claim.
  • Can anyone tell me if 'air traffic' and a subsequent 5 hour delay from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Gatwick would qualify for compensation?
I have enough money to last me the rest of my life... unless I buy something.

My claim has been with the Spanish CAA for 3 months now - what email address do you have for them please so I can chase it up as there isn't one on any of the documents they sent me?

Update - Just had letter from AESA stating they have received no reply from TC within the specified time limit and have found in my favour! Looks like they gave TC 8 weeks to provide a report. They go on to say TC 'haven't proved EC.........and should pay the amount of compensation claimed'. It'll be interesting to see what TC do now, as I issued MCOL earlier this month and they have yet to respond to my claim.

So, looks like AESA are doing a better job than the CAA here in UK - at least they are giving an opinion in the matter. But I know my fight's not won yet..................
