  • My delay with Air France resulted in a 24 hour delay at my final destination. Air France said the delay was due to a passenger not boarding and this passengers luggage had to be removed from the plane. This took 74mins and we missed our connecting flight (also with Air France). I lost one days pay as I arrived home 24 hours late. They told me this is considered "extraordinary circumstances" and denied my claim for compensation.
Can you tell me if I can disagree with them? The flight was already late when we boarded so I find their reason inexplicable.
    Many thanks for any advice.

  • Hello all, some advise would be great here.

I had a 8.45 hour delay in 2010 with US Airways travelling from Gatwick to Charlotte. I got a reply today stating as they carried out all necessary maintenence and all feasable steps the regulation did not count.

They have offered me $800 voucher for a voucher that is valid for one year. But my flight was so bad I don't think I would ever fly with them again.

Are they right or should I reject the offer?
  • I sent a letter to request compensation and have had an e-mail back stating that the circumstances were exceptional although they have not explained what they were and that we were looked after at the Airport if they call an inedible sandwich and a small pepsi at 5am I would rather they had not bothered. I have e-mailed back but no response yet!
  • Hi, thanks to Martin I received a cheque in the mail for £1036.17. This was for my husband and I who were delayed in 2009 for a flight from Heathrow to Cairo. The flight was delayed for just over 4 hours and was a BA flight. I used the letter template on this site. I posted it on the 23rd of Feb and the cheque arrived yesterday (28th of March). I didn't have to do any chasing.

One question, does anyone know whether you have to be an EU resident to claim? My sister was on the same flight but lives in Australia. Can she make a claim?

Thanks and good luck to those who are yet to have a successful claim.

Well done, the regulation covers passengers departing from an airport in a member state,so that should include all nationals, even Aussies.

    Hi,

I had a bad experience with a flight Heathrow to Miami, we were diverted to Nassau (Bahamas) due to bad weather, Once landed we were fuelled quickly but held up due to paperwork and we went over the 12 hour legal flight time. We ended up spending 6 hours on the ground at Nassau. Eventually getting to Miami at 11pm (original ETA 3pm) some 8 hours late.

Although bad weather was the initial problem the further dealys were due to paperwork. Do you think it is worth pursuing?

I have the original flight tickets in an email and found some details of other people affected on this post on another forum:

I've written to them and have had no reply after the letter was delivered 5 weeks ago. I have sent them an email (via web page) to chase. Not sure what to do next :/
