    Hi All,

Firstly sorry about the long post, but I've been running round in circles on google so sure others have too.

Wonder if someone can give me some advice / guiandance re flight delays. Last week I was on a plane from the UK to Bermuda, flying with BA. We boarded the flight on time (3pm) however after sitting on the plane for approx 45 minutes we left the plane with a £5 food voucher and told we would be taking off at 5.30pm. The airport displays said more information at 5.30, this changes to 5.45, then 6.30 and finally 7.30 and about this time we boarded the airplane again.

It was the same plane and the same flight crew, the captain explained that as they we were about to be pushed away from the gate the crew did a check and spotted a fuel leak from one of the wings of the plane. Apparently the fuel had to be pumped out the wing, a seal replaced, checked and triple checked and the glue had to set on the seal that was replaces then more checks had to be carried out before the panels and the fuel could be replaced.

According to flightstats.com we should have taken off at 3pm and instead took off at 7.43pm.

After I landed I found out my partner had checked the money saving expert site and advised me to put a claim as she said under EU rules I was entitled to compensation. We checked BA's website and filled in a form that appeared appropriate which said the flight had'nt been cancelled so nothing was due, so after checking the money saving expert site again we filled in a customer contact form, we received a message back saying it had been passed on to the relevant team and finally got the message at the bottom of this post.

Am I miss reading the website or flogging a dead horse?

    Thanks for any info

    Andy

    Dear Mr X

Thank you for contacting us about your claim for compensation.

Your claim for compensation has been refused because BA2233 on 04 June 2010 was not cancelled.

Under EU legislation, British Airways is not liable for a compensation payment when a flight is delayed. For more detailed information, please visit ba.com

    · click on the section marked Legal

    · then select Notification of rights to compensation for cancelled flights

Thank you for following this up with us and I hope you will fly with us again soon.

    Best regards

    xxxxxxx

On Friday evening, I had a delay of around 3 hours on a flight from Bristol to Belfast, poss just more or less, not sure which but immaterial to the main problem.

After spending my £3 voucher on 3/4 of a Panini, I phoned my hire car at the other end to confirm whether they would be available. My flight was due to depart at 2110, it eventually left around 0010 and got in after 0100. The guy at Hertz was trying to be as helpful as possible but he finished at 2300 although he could stay on till as late as 0100 in exceptional circumstances if it was absolutely guaranteed that I would get in. The easyjet staff on the ground were noticeable by their absence so I couldn't give this guarantee.

In the end I had to ask my brother to drive to the airport and pick up the keys. This incurred an extra charge of just over £10. Additionally, he needed fuel for his car as he pretty much got there on fumes and had no cash to top it up. I put around £30 in which we both thought fair.

Given that the alternative to the above was to spend 6 hours on a couch at the airport, waiting for the desk to reopen, would it be reasonable to ask easyjet to refund my extra costs? If so, how do I go about doing it?

    Ta for any advice

    Hello,

I've got a County Court date in July to claim compensation from TC over a 23 hour delay. I've given the Court and TC all my papers which I will rely on (most of it from TC who have given me my best evidence as all their letters contradict one another). Thus far they haven't sent me anything. They should have sent me their papers by 2 June.
    Two qusetions:

    1. Has any case gone to court yet?

    2. Given that they have not disclosed anything, what is the state of play regarding the courts view on this?

    Many thanks

Please can someone help. I experienced a 15 hr flight delay with Thomson on 30th May Cardiff to Dalaman because of technical problems. So far I have asked for them to confirm this in writing, which they have, and I'm now looking into the possiblity of compensation. But I am getting very nervous with all this talk of county courts. I have printed off a template letter from flightmole, but I'm unsure to send it. Can someone advise me on my chances of getting compensation. thanks

My parents are currently on their way to the Azores. Kind of.....

Their flight from Manchester was cancelled yesterday evening. Someone from the tour company (it's a charter hol) mentioned poor weather but I did a check right away and there was no poor weather anywhere near the Azores yesterday

Anyway, the flight cancelled they were put up in a hotel and fed in Manchester.

They have now been given their flight schedule for today: Manchester to Heathrow at 0810, Heathrow to Lisbon, and arriving in the Azores tonight at 2130, 24 hours later than planned

They spoke to me after leaving the airport yesterday, so i could not advise them to contact the airline.

Also, as the holiday is booked through a tour company, how does this work: they still have to complain to the airline, right? Only reason I ask is that maybe the airline(s) today are not the same as yesterday.

I appreciate they're not gonna get the money out easily, but this seems less than OK to me, so I'd like to help them get some compensation for the !!!!!!ing-up of their ruby wedding hol: is there anything particular about this instance, or should I just follow the guidance to be found elsewhere in this thread?

    Many thanks in advance, Craig

If it's a package tour, the whole problem belongs to the tour operator, and your parents don't need to argue things out with the airline.

Quote from the CAA leaflet on the subject of compensation etc.:
What rights do air travellers booked with tour operators have?
Under the Package Travel Directive, tour operators that organise inclusive tour packages are responsible for all aspects of the
    holiday, including the flight arrangements.
In the first instance, complaints should be addressed to the tour operator concerned.
  • I was delayed at Alicate Airpport for 2 1/2 hours, they had us all board the plane 1 hour late and then told us that we would be 2 hours delayed because the french air traffic control people were on strike.

Can I make aclaim to the airline for the delay?

Why not send a claim to the French Air Traffic control people who actually caused the problem. I'm sure that they will be very sympathetic and send a cheque by return.

    c'est la vie

here is the link re claims

Airlines are exempt from paying out compensation if cancellations are due to ‘extraordinary circumstances'. Basically this covers unpreventable occurrences such as extreme weather conditions, security risks and worker strikes.

    so in short - no
