Hi all - hope I'm doing this right as I've never posted before but here goes! This may be a really stupid question, but do these new laws regarding delays cover flights from Dalaman - as I'm not sure that its part of the EU?? Basically, back in 2010 we were delayed 8 hours coming back from Dalaman on a Thomas Cook flight - due to mechanical diffs I think. I tried writing to them at the time but was fobbed off and, of course, the delay fell just short of being able to claim off travel insurance. Any help appreciated!!
  • I'm new to this, so here goes ... Does anyone know, please? Can passengers claim for domestic flights within the UK. Info states EU flights, but I can't find whether I can claim for a trip from Scotland to London that was so heavily delayed, I could have done it quicker by train! Even on a Sunday ... Thanks

Yes is the quick answer as TC are EU based, and flying in to a EU destination.
  • Just to let you know like other people here, I've now been asked for my bank details including IBAN and BIC overseas details. Sadly they are making my husband apply separately, but that won't put me off. Have already sent his in :p

Hi I have just been checking out my flight from 2010 we were on VS075 on the 21st oct. we were delayed 4hrs and 5 mins from man to mco. it was a technical fault, a switch of all things the bulb had gone!!

we were sat on the tarmac all the time. we had no drinks and no food, we didnt even get off the plane. half way over the atlantic we ran out of water! and all soft drinks.

we were a family of 4 2 adults and 2 kids, can I make a claim and will it be with vs or vh? also I would be happy to have flights for 2014 rather than the cash is it right to offer an alternative?
  • I don't know if anyone can help - I'm new to this forum. My daughter was delayed by 8 hours on a Thomson flight from Gatwick to Cancun in November 2010. Have found confirmation of the delay from flightstats.co.uk. She has no documents other than knowing the flight no. She was really ill in Mexico with food poisoning & ended up in hospital. Everything else connected to the 'nightmare' holiday has since been shredded ! Do you think there's any point in pursuing a claim against Thomsons for compensation for the delay ? They must be able to prove that she was on that flight ? Thank you for your help.

Has anybody had any luck with Cyprus airlines? As I understand it they went bust so many years ago but were bailed out and are now trading again. I had a 25 hour delay to Larnaca airport in Cyprus in July 2007 and I am fighting for 400 euro compensation per passenger (1200 euro in total) I have written to Eurocypria Airlines
    P.O. Box 40970
    97 Artemidos avenue,
    Artemidos Building
    Larnaca
    6308
    Cyprus.
but I have been informed that they no longer trade from that address.
I have a booking reference number but sadly did not retain the tickets (who does?)
Is it worth me pursuing this or should I treat it as a lost cause?
P.S. we did receive £25 each off the insurance company when we returned shortly after so I don't know if this will affect my claim or not.

Any ideas anyone? I've read the FAQ's but unsure as what to do next as I've only a few months before the deadline.

    Help anybody?
  • Just a quick message to tell you about our experience. 5 of us were travelling with Monarch in August from Tenerife to Manchester. When we got to the airport the staff said there would be an 8 hour delay. The plane arrived at around 9 hours later, and there was a problem with the plane and that we wouldn't be leaving Tenerife until the following day so Monarch put us up in a hotel for the night.
This incurred a 28 hour delay, yet Monarch said the circumstances surrounding out claim were out of their hands *FYI* - We got told first hand by the captain that the problem has supposedly been fixed in Manchester, but when they got to Tenerife, this problem has occurred again.

Below is what Monarch Claims Dept sent back to us:

"Our records show that the root cause of the disruption was caused by a hydraulic hose leak which was an ‘extraodinary circumstance’. This is because a similar fault had not occurred since 2007 and as a consequence a spare hose was not stored at the line station and therefore needed to be sourced. Once this had been achieved a team was disapatched from the UK to ensure that the fault was rectified as soon as possible which in turn led to your delay. I am satisfied that this was indeed an extraordinary circumstance that could not have reasonably been prevented by Monarch. I am unable to agree to your claim for compensation."

I thought that this was ridiculous, as we had a 28 hour delay, we were all extremely exhausted and disgusted at the service we received from Monarch/Iberia staff (MINUS cabin crew and flight crew who were a credit to their employers).

So just wanted to share with you that i suppose it's really unclear what's defined under "Extraordinary Circumstance"

    Look forward to any replies!

  • We were on the same flight as you on the way home with the 28 hour delay. We got an email back from Monarch the other day...

I'm struggling to see how a technical problem with the plane is an extraordinary circumstance, especially when it was meant to have been fixed in Manchester (reason for initial delay).

How did you get on with your claim?
