Doesn't 'extraordinary circumstances' mean that the cancellation is out of the airlines control thus they are unable to pay out?

Also they make it so difficult to find an complaints email address, which is why I had to go through Resolver :/
• Correct. If the EC is *actually* outside the airline's control compensation is not due. However, consult Vauban's guide as some events alleged by the airlines to be outside their control - for example delayed previous flight, tech problem and so forth - have been found in Court to be legally within their control so compensation is due and has been paid. PIA e-mail addy is care@piac.aero.
They have numerous UK offices with phone numbers.I *think* if they have a UK presence you can take legal action here but i am not sure. Others may advise.

Think its better to ring or just let it go through Resolver and make sure its seen by the right people?

Im assuming, i'll get fobbed off if I ring them up, as they probably can't give a straight answer whether or not I can claim compensation and the fact that I probably wont have the legal information to go back at them straight away, if they refuse (read 'spin me some lies') me over the phone

Hi Kay Dot,

IMHO, forget resolver, don’t even think about calling them and issue a NBA ‘Notice Before Action’. Follow the link in my sig to reach Vaubans excellent guide.

Good luck,

Hey NoviceAngel, thanks for the reply!

Im thinking.....

I'll still keep the Resolver case open but now email PIA directly too (using the email provided by DrA), basically using the Resolver complaints letter template. I'll give it about a week so I can say "further to my letter from xxxx" (following Vauban's guide) that ive already contacted you guys and have not received a response (or a satisfactory one), and go on from there.

Please advise

I think you might be in danger of having too many complaint routes on the go, keep things simple, don’t email the NBA post it and get proof of posting from a post office, you don’t need to use special or recorded delivery.

Cheers,

So I should close the Resolver case?

Also where it says "Further to my letter of xxx" what am I supposed to replace that with? As this would be the first letter im sending to them.

And as my flight was cancelled and rebooked for the following day I should still be able to claim the full 600euros per passenger right? As 1 day was lost from my trip

1.. only you can decide for yourself the best course of action we can only give you the options which we have done.

2.. just start from scratch with a 14 day NBA written in Vaubans Guide.

3... depends on the reason for cancellation- again all explained in Vaubans Guide,
