Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

There are two issues to deal with for the Delta problem at Atlanta. Firstly there was no delay on the ex UK flight at all and secondly the delays at Atlanta were due to seriously dangerous thunderstorms which meant arrivals and departures were cancelled for hours. I suspect Delta will defend this all the way, they are not responsible for weather related delays0

Looks like this one has gone in favour of the airline industry.

A question for you good people
I have had KLM reschedule my flights back from the USA in a few weeks time.
I know I can choose another route etc but there isnt one that I particularly want to do.
the reschedule means I only have 35 scheduled minutes between landing and take off from Minneapolis (from Vegas heading to Amsterdam then onwards to UK).
KLM tell me its enough time , both flights are same terminal 1
If we dont make it what am I entitled to regarding hotel onward flights, compensation if we dont get back to the Uk when we should do please.
I know the 4 hour rule but not sure how or if it applies if we get stuck in Minnesota.
whole trip was booked with KLM0 -

Delta would be responsible to get you another flight to AMS. Depending on reason for delay you may get hotel (US tend not to provide if weather) or you could look to your travel insurance0 -
EU261 does not apply in the scenario you describe as on non-eu carriers (I assume the flight from vegas is delta) the flight needs to be departing from the EU to apply (does not matter if booked KLM or KLM flight number - they do not operate it)

the next flight to amsterdam is I believe nearly 20 hours later the next day. Am I right in thinking I would be able to claim for late arrival in Norwich as it would be a very late departure from Amsterdam back to Norwich, of course I would still have the hassle of being overnght in Minneapolis
sorry dont know what you mean "if weather" and yes it is Delta0 -

Claim is from the airline that causes the initial delay. In this case this is Delta who are only covered on flights departing the EU. The fact that you would be late back would be due to having to be rebooked due to the Delta delay so no compensation under EU261 (your travel insurance may cover something but is often minimal e.g. £20 for each 12 hours)
EU261 Duty of Care would also not apply - this entitles passengers to be looked after during any delays irrespective of the reason for the delay.
Commonly in the US, airlines will provide hotel accommodation to those delayed due to elements within their control but if delays were caused by weather they do not. (lots of tales in some US airports of people left to sort themselves out during bad weather delays) - I prefer to always book an EU airline for non-EU flights to ensure the cover (automatically covered on all flights departing EU)
What is your date of travel? is there no better connections? I would expect boarding to commence before you would even have landed and would normally close 15 mins before departure - Delta do sell this as a valid connection but seems really tight even if no delays inbound. I personally would prefer the 4 hour connection at SEA (although I would be happier with a 2 hour one)0 -
Thanks ,I will look again at the alternatives.
the flight we are on for the logest leg is a plane with 2 seats together rather than 3 (we have been very uncomfortable in the past with no space left for the 2 of us in a row of 3)
the Sea connection would leave us in that predicament again
return date is 31st may0 -

The SEA flight looks like 2-4-2 config as is ATL and DTW0
