Speed Cameras

But that is the whole point - the OP seemingly/admittedly hadn't a clue as to what the limit was - he braked down from 65 to 60 needlessly as far as I can make out. Solely because he saw a police vehicle.
.
Lots of people brake when they see a police vehicle or speed camera, like the idiots that are doing 28 in a 30 and then slow to 20 for a speed camera, or the people who are reluctant to over take a traffic car on the motorway even though that car is only doing 55 mph, a lot of this psychological rather lack of knowledge.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

There was a BBC news article a few years ago which said 60% or more of motorists don't actually know what this:
Means, causing many to revert to 40mph.
Also, co-op insurance did their own research http://www.gocompare.com/covered/2013/02/a-fifth-of-people-dont-know-what-one-of-these-is/“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'd like to hear your reasoning why you think it's careless and what evidence the police would have.0 -

I wish they wouldn't use these signs on roads where it is not appropriate to do 60 mph. There's a rather bendy stretch of single track road near where I live, goes on for about 3 miles, it has NSL signs yet you would not want to drive much above 30 on it.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

Meanwhile all your other rural roads including dual carriageway have been reduced to 50.0 -

You've already read my reasoning on why it's driving without due care and attention - two other posters have clearly understood it so I'm not sure what your problem is. Presumably you believe that knowing what the speed limit is is not an essential part of competent driving? I can just imagine what a delight it would be to be stuck behind you...
As the evidence the police would have...I used the word "Ideally" because I know and the police know that in practice it's difficult to prosecute people for stupidity."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -

So ideally the police should stop and question drivers who travel at 65 in a 70, to establish their reasoning and if they know the speed limit?

You have to admit it's !!!!!! that I have to do 40 down a particular big wide dual carriageway, but if I take a side road into the narrow country lanes i'm allowed do 60 when it clearly wouldn't be safe to do so.
One road I can think of is barely wider than my car........
But don't get me wrong, I don't think limits on rural roads should be changed. I think they need to stop messing with the perfectly reasonable speed limits and instead educate drivers as to what the NSL actually is, because I firmly believe that a disproportionate amount of accidents are caused by people overtaking drivers that do not know how to drive at a reasonable speed (ie 40 in an NSL).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
