So your statement that the OP was on a dual carriageway and the national is 70mph is not true in all cases.
That statement quoted is absolutely true, and cannot be interpreted in any other way. Mr Carter is absolutely correct.
The national speed limit is exactly that..a national speed limit.
It is the speed limit in place country-wide...and there are two of them!
Urban NSL
Rural NSL
If the speed limit is otherwise, then that limit is posted, with repeater signs at regular, specified intervals.
The Rural NSL is dependant on type of road [single carriageway, dual carriageway, motorway], and the type of vehicle [LGV, bus, MGV, van car/bike]!
The urban NSL applies to all.
The urban NSL is 30mph.
In simple terms, the urban NSL applies if there is street lighting.
Because National speed limits are those which are in place country-wide, they only need to be marked at start and finish.
Not good to be a driver, and labouring under a misconception. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
The Highway Code is available free online for anyone that needs to brush up on the basics:

I think someone said that on the second posts.smashingyour... wrote: »If you were in a car the national speed limit on a dual carriageway is 70.
or is that abusive?
Maybe you can tell up what a dual carriageway is and how it can have a 60 mph national speed limit for cars.0 -

Good post can you simplify what a dual carriageway is.0 -

It appears it does or rather who says what about it.Jamie_Carter wrote: »Just ignore smashingyour... all he does is make abusive and unconstructive posts.
Did I not give the correct answer in #2?
If not explain how I was unconstructive and abusive.0 -
Yet again Jamie Carter slags me off and goes silent when hit with facts.
How often is that?
Er, every time I've corrected him or asked him to evidence his incorrect statements.0 -

We know that but the op asked about a dual carriageway. So if it's a car it's 70mph.0 -
