I add cinnamon and mixed spices to mine - smashing

I found that if I used maple syrup or any other type the mixture was too dry but as soon as I went back to ordinary golden syrup the consistency was perfect.

i have used honey and it was ok but it had been runny honey and the treacle was good too

Regarding the prices of making hobnobs, i use smart price or tesco own butter/margerine or whatver you call it..think its 29p for a tub. i also use the morrsions syrup in a glass jar (or whatever shop im in when i need syrup)

Mumzy if you use the value/smart price marge then they cost 59p instead of 80p But I'm not sure if this should be used for baking as its only 38% fat.

Twinks hobnobs makes nearly 900g of biscuits (I think) but in two packs of Hobnobs you only get 600g so you get more biscuits for less £ if you make them yourself. Look on the ingredients for your hobnobs you'll see that in each biscuit there is 0.1g salt - there isnt any salt in Twinks

  • Just made these for the first time. Added a bit of mixed spice to some of the mix and then cranberries and mixed seeds to the last third. All versions are absolutely yum. thanks twink.

  • Can't believe the length of this thread! I came on to it fairly late(I thought)-post 46:rotfl:

Many thanks to you Twink. I have made zillions of batches-everyone adores them.

Also, I must say, I do admire you for taking the time to reply to posters-there is such a nice feeling about this thread.

thats very kind of you to say so, i do feel guilty adding to the length of the thread but i like to reply if i can and i am glad you are still enjoying the biscuits and with the price of everything now it means we can still have a biscuit with our tea because you can get so many from a batch
