Fresh blueberries are on special offer at Tesco at the minute, £1 a punnet until 6th June.0 -
What's the lowest amount of sugar anyone has used to make these successfully?
I am sure I made mine with 6½oz once ( I haven't made them for months as I have been trying to cut down on the sweetstuff).0 -
Has anyone noticed any difference if using different brands of self raising flour?
I usually just buy Tesco value at 42p for 1.5kg but I see that they are selling McDougalls at 89p for the same size. I was wondering if it makes any difference spending the extra on a more expensive brand.0 -
I have used both economy and special offer MacDougals and the biscuits are just as amazing with either - the only rule is make lots (she says looking at the empty plate on the work surface!!)Clearing the junk to travel light

I made a half batch of these for the family on Tuesday (just to test them) and got about 22 from it....thing is...I ate about 12 of them  So I had to make another batch yesterday.
Under normal circumstances, I can eat sweet things in moderation, but with these, even when they're in a tin in the cupboard, they call to me - so what's a girl to do?
Fab recipe! Thanks so much
Anyone reading this thread, wondering whether or not to try them - do it! you wont be disappointed
sb44 I made mine with Asda Smart Price Flour and mine turned out fine. Funnily enough, I have used McDougalls all my adult life, but thought I'd give a cheapie flour a try to see if there's any difference -with what I've baked so far, I haven't noticed any. I've got some McDougalls in the cupboard though, so might have a bash with that to compare, and if there's no difference will probably switch to smart price/value flour all the time. Why pay more eh?Aug11 £193.29/£240

I accidentally had to make some again just because I noticed the thread whilst browsing. I only got 15 from a whole batch. Yours must be tiny. Either that, or mine are jumbo-bloke-sized ones.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

They're not mrbadexample- but I think a lot of that has to do with how accurate you are when you measure the syrup/water and Bicarb of Soda.
Admittedly, first batch were on the smallish side, but the mixture was a bit stiff to work with, so for the 2nd batch I added just a fraction more bicarb and syrup, making a much more workable wet mix. I made 22 again, and this time they turned out a very good size and I again got 22.
