I was just about to start measuring out the ingredients for these (my 3rd attempt - last 2 were lovely), and only have plain flour  .

Is there some way I can use this instead - maybe add some baking powder? If so does anyone know quantities?

Thanks loads in advance if you can help!

i looked in google and one of them said 21/2 tsps baking powder and a pinch of salt to 500g plain flour, sift together a few times to mix in, have never tried it myself
  • I made these yesterday. Are they supposed to come out just like hobnobs? Mine came out just like very thin flapjacks. They are still soft today.
I did stick to the recipe and timings; any longer in the oven and they would have been burnt.
    I'm a bit disappointed  .

    Hi Twink,
I had another go this weekend and made them smaller and with butter and they were fab! Much better than I ever expected. :j

Thanks again for sharing this recipe.:T

em i think you made them too big, mumoftwo :D i get 46 from my batch, not sure about covering all the biscuit in choc, though am sure the children would love it, someone put small chunks on the top when they came out the oven or you could just drizzle some on top, am amazed at all the variations there is

They came out huuuge, but very nice indeed. My DD1 said it just tasted like porridge yuck, at first but she came back for more when they were cooled down!! And no, she didn't take any to Guide camp, because my husband attacked them when he got home from work!! So a great success all around, thanks Twink

hope they make it to guide camp next time, mumoftwo :D think they would bake better if they were smaller and i find they are crisper by next day, i have bought a bag of asdas soft peach pieces, 58p, to chop finely into the next batch

Another tip Ive found which helps, not really money saving I know, but I do re-use them. I line my trays with grease proof paper, and they come off a treat! Like I say, I can re-use the GPaper again. It saves the messing of scraping any mixture which sticks!

great idea re the greaseproof paper, they shouldnt really stick though, i usually just grease the trays, i use a fish slice to take them off soon after they come out the oven and put them on a big tray in a single layer to harden

I love baking, but hate the clearing up after, greaseproof paper works a treat. I leave the biscuits on the paper on the wire rack to cool, they are better to peel off when cool, just use a slice or a knife to help with the stickier ones!

Thanks Twink - these are gorgeous. DD recommends just eating the raw dough!

Beautiful biscuits, and the oats convince me these are healthy and good for me.

    :T :T

(Sorry the photo's a bit out of focus. I was a bit shoogly!! - too much sugar?)
