belleabi it would be interesting to know how many people are making the hobnobs and which countries, thanks for the info on adding smarties
Well the recipe has reached South Africa now
I didnt have any syrup so I substituted with honeyso I dont know if they came out as they were meant to.... I found them incredibly oily though when making them into balls. From the posts I have read (yes nearly all :rotfl: ) I didnt see anyone else mention this. Also I made them far too big as i only got 27 out of the mixture. Oh well, I am trying as I am not very good at baking and believe it or not this is my first hm biscuit attempt! They have gone down very well needless to say....... Even though Idont think they turned out quite right, I am still proud of myself................. :T

I know what you mean, I got very messy the first time I made them and also got bit bored making individual biscuits...that's why I always make them traybake style now. I just plop the whole mixture into a lined roasting dish, then cut up into squares when it's cooled down.weaving through the chaos...0 -
I added a couple of dessert spoons of homemade marmalade to todays 1/2 batch. Reduced the sugar and used half honey and half syrup, then cooked them slower and longer than usual as I find usung honey it burns quite quickly in my fan oven0

good idea and a lot less bother too0 -
I always make them as a traybake as it's easier. The last batch I made (last week) I used 10oz of everything & slightly more syrup & bicarb than usual to make a massive tray full
The idea was that the kids wouldn't hoover them up so quickly if there was more but they still only lasted the day I made them & the following one :rotfl:I had been contemplating covering them with melted chocolate but they'd last even less time than they do now  if I did.
I made a load for a Lion's fund raising coffee morning and they went down a treat. Thanks Twink you are a legend :T0 -
glad the recipe has been useful to you Sunnygirl i must try doing it as a traybake0
