Homemade hobnobs?

Haven't home-baked for years, but tried these yesterday and they were great!
I got about 30 from the recipe, so obviously did them too thick. They ended up the thickness and consistency of a chewy cookie rather than a biscuit.
I've a funny oven, so dunno if I cooked them long enough - they were golden in colour but very soft to the touch when they came out. Should they be firm to the touch when just taken out?
I could also distinctly smell (what I presume is) flour when they were cooked. (Used to get the same problem with homemade scones.)
Anyway, thanks to twink for the recipe - daresay I'll be doing some more! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

the recipe says the mix makes 60 but i get about 50-55 yours had been a bit too thick, take a bit the size of a walnut shell put it on the tray and press down with a fork, they are soft when they come out the oven but should come off easily with a fish slice, if not they need more time, they harden as they cool
cant say i have noticed a smell of flour, i am using asdas smartprice flour just now
well done for getting back to home baking again0 -
Twink - made these for the first time last week and have had to keep making them as DH LOVES them. Even took them around to friends on Sat and they were scoffed very quickly.
Have been making the dough (with added choc chips) and then making a batch and putting the rest of the dough in the fridge or freezing it and cutting off bits as i need to make more and has worked a treat.
Only problem is their TOO good.0 -
Made a batch of these yesterday and managed to get 68 out of the mix (a personal best). Unfortunately there are only about a dozen left as some American friends scoffed most of them, and OH took a lunchbox full to work this morning.
Looks like I'd better get the baking trays out again!!"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

Thanks, my children and I made these yesterday. I am going to use a little less sugar next time as I found them very sweet.
We only got 28 out of the mixture, I didn't realise they would spread/rise so much. They were a big hit with DH.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -
I love this recipie!!!!!! I tried them for the first time at the weekend and they have nearly all gone. MIL said they tasted like Millie cookies, just not quite as sweet which was better!
