No royal babies in this thread!
I was just wondering what people's thoughts are on age differences between couples. I got thinking about it because I've been invited to a wedding where the happy couple are about 30 and 55 (!) years old, and I think there have been, shall we say, mixed reactions to the wedding for one reason or another..
I guess it's not uncommon for (for example) a 10 or 15 year age gap, but I guess 25 years is quite a difference!
Out of interest (alright, nosiness
) has anyone on here got married to someone much older (or younger) than them? What were people's reactions, were they ok with it or were there a few raised eyebrows?

My friend was 18 when she got with her partner who is 32. I suppose 14 years isn't OTT but because she was quite young everyone had something to say...
Thier still together 4 years later and people seemed to have just accepted it lol.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I know a few women who have married men quite a bit older than them (18 years, 22 years and 30 years) and in the last two cases I know the women's parents were not happy.
Mind you in each of those cases the men ended up in illhealth and the wife had to nurse them.
I am 4 years older than my husband and my MIL thought (probably still thinks) that was terrible and "not normal"!The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I'm 21 and my partner is 29. To us it isn't a big age gap at all and we don't notice it in our day to day lives but when we first got together there were lots of shocked faces (mainly from my friends and colleagues) when they found out his age.0

My friends Aunt when she was in her early 30s met and married a man who was in his 60s.The reason was ... he was very rich and had a variety of buisness interests etc.
Anyway he ended up getting dementia and being really abusive and cruel to her and she then had a really hard time of it before he had to go into care. He really lost the plot totally.
She said that people will say that age differences dont matter, and when they do remember this and dont make the same mistake yourself!
At the end of the day if you are with someone who is a lot older than you are theres more of a chance you will end up their carer than if you married someone the same age.0 -
I'm 25 and my partner is 41, we've been together 4 years and lived together 2 and a half.
People do raise an eyebrow now and then, but I suppose 16 years isn't too many!0 -
11 years between me and my husband, and we are just coming up to our 10th wedding anniversary. My parents were a little concerned about the age difference at first as I was only 24, but they just wanted me to be happy. they would of been concerned that I was marrying the right person what ever the age gap or other differences.Zebras rock0

I think that's what some people are saying, she might be bringing up kids (if they have any) while nursing an elderly husband.
Also, he's got a family already from his previous marriage so will he want to start all over again, having a baby.
I suppose if they were 30 and 40, or even 30 and 45, it wouldn't be so much of an issue, but 30 and 55?0 -
My OH was 9 years older than me. The only problem was that he turned into a miserable old git 9 years before I turned into a miserable old trout..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

My grandad on my dad's side went through a lot He had four wives who all died, three who were all of similar age to him. His fourth was the love of his life, he was late 60's early 70's and she was late 20's. She died before him and he followed soon after from a broken heart0
