JamesN, congratulations on your offer, that is awesome especially after you have been waiting for so long!

I have been missing from here for the last few days due to frustration with everything going on, we still do not have an answer and our broker is flat out lying to us and then fianlly admitted he had submitted wrong basic details in the application. I don't want to say too much because you never know if they are on here! :)

We had another KPI come through the post last Friday which I guess is due to him resubmitting the application.

I really thought we were doing the right thing going with a broker but after the large fees we have had to pay him I honestly do not think it was worth it. Our entire process has now been going for over a month and as we get married in under 3 months and have a 5 week honeymoon we really wanted this sorted before going away and we are worried this will not happen now. I read on here that using a broker was the best thing to do and I don't want to tar all brokers with the same brush as it is the same with every profession, there are good and bad, but I do think you should look at both side of things and decide if you really need to use one.

I don't think we will hear anything today or even next week because of the brokers but am not sure what to believe. I wish we could talk to Halifax ourselves but we have been told we are not allowed too as we have used a broker.

Back to the waiting game of all weekend - hope others get better news and have a good weekend regardless! :)

I feel the same as you. I too have paid a lot to our broker and they seem pretty rubbish at the moment, and like you again, I wish I could speak to Halifax direct. I definitely will not be using one again. There is nothing we couldn't have done that he is doing, I wish I realised that sooner. But hey ho, we will get there in the end. I know it is really stressful, I have been super stressed myself in this limbo, but try and stay positive :D

Same here, to pay somebody £500 to then have them select wrong options on a drop down list is just stupid. If I had put the application through I would have triple checked it before clicking submit. I could have gotten documents (which we had provided to the broker weeks ago) to them a lot quicker. Then the lies on top of all that about when they did the application etc are just childish.

But as you say, there is only so much stressing you can do and I am actually feeling quite calm about it now. You can't change other peoples actions and what will be will be. :)

Totally agree with you;) As you say, you can't change other peoples actions and in the rare event we go for a mortgage in future, we just won't use them. Some brokers are good but to be honest in future I will save myself the expense :D

Thanks TB. If they've done things wrong, surely you have grounds to get your money back or at least some of it back?

Our broker seems to have been ok but I would never pay directly. I just go for one where the fees are paid via the lender.

We paid our broker £399 per mortgage application (we have two as we are switching my boyfriend's flat to a joint buy to let mortgage) plus he gets over £600 from the lender as it states on our Key Facts of the mortgage!! Never again.
  • Second mortgage offer has been issued!

Our broker is amazing. Takes payment via commission from the lender so he will get about £500, none of it directly from us.
  • Hi All! So sorry to hear about some of your problems re. broker! I would definitely fight to get some of your money back if you can.

So far our broker has been excellent - but until that mortgage offer comes through who knows how good he actually is! He is on a commission basis too so I suppose it is in his interest to get it for us!!

So having to have my husbands most recent full accounts done by accountant we have finally sent over all the extra documents they asked for - fingers crossed and lots of praying that is comes off!!! Really hoping for a NatYes!!! x
  • Congratulations JamesN.

I'm sorry to hear some of you are having problems, as if it isn't stressful enough.

I've gone through an IFA and I've still rang halifax myself for updates. I've had my offer this morning yay:j
  • Does anyone know what just mortgages refund policy is?
Paid £495 8 months ago and on my 2nd mortgage broker cos the 1st one left just mortgages halfway through my first application.
Doesnt answer calls or emails and conveniently has annual leaves and holidays every couple of months.
Only responds once in a blue moon.
Will it be possible to get a refund or is the £495 gone and i should just cut my losses and find another broker?
The other party are on our cases to speed it up.
