How do you all occupy yourself to prevent going mad??

    This evening I have:

    - Eaten my tea at someone else's house to try and prevent myself from Googling things mad.
    - Tidied and re-organised my wardrobe.
    - Changed my bedding.
    - Put two loads of washing and dryer on.
    - Ironed a pile of clothes.

:o I am shattered! But know that when I go to bed, I won't sleep!!

    Any other strategies??

Alcohol. Plus you sort of get used to the waiting.

Looks like I'm stepping out of here as our valuation came back surprisingly low so that's fluffed our numbers up :(

Back to the drawing board for us

Looks like everyone is going through the mill here so I will add my progress or lack of it. I have a sizeable deposit and only need to borrow £30,000 a fifth of price of house, but I am 65 with a very low income, and not many lenders will take me on. Santander had offered me a 5 year interest only mortgage but because the sale of the house took so long the mortgage product offer ran out, the rules had changed and they would not re negotiate,
So here I am living in my daughters house with furniture in store trying to get a mortgage on a different house. This was 19th Nov.
9th Dec Got mortgage in principal with Leeds BS on a 10 year repayment mortgage for £29,000 bar a few quid. I got this via L&C brokers.
All documentation requested sent up immediately. Then after a week or so they would ask for more docs. This continued in dribs and drabs until the beginning of January.
2nd Jan told Valuation would be done 6th Jan
Received valuation report ten days later, house value ok but may be a retention because of damp.
20 Jan contacted L&S as hadn't had an offer. They said Leeds needed proof of pension. They had already had all these docs right at the beginning and I had got them back. I blew my top! L&S rang me back about 20 minutes later and apologised for asking for duplication of docs and the BDM would sort it out.
22 Jan L&S rang me again to say I should receive offer soon. But they could not say when. I am not holding my breath. The house is at the lower end of the market and I cannot find anything cheaper unless it needs a lot of work so I do need a mortgage.
It has taken over 6 weeks so far.
To say I am stressed is an understatement.

I thought I'd add my two cents! I'm a first time buyer, only 25, buying totally alone, and already feeling incredibly stressed. I started my house hunt nine days ago (no agreement in principle and no planning), viewed one flat on a whim and fell in love. Nine whirlwind days later, my timeline....

    - 15th Jan - Decided to buy a house
    - 17th Jan - Viewed property on whim
    - 19th Jan - Second viewing
    - 20th Jan - Put my offer in with the seller
    - 21st Jan - Offer accepted
    - 21st Jan - Met broker to discuss options
    - 22nd Jan - Put in application with Halifax
    - 23rd Jan - Valuation took place

It's been an absolute whirlwind couple of weeks - I never expected to do this much so quickly. I should find out the valuation tomorrow and I'm incredibly nervous. Fingers crossed...

    In context:
    - £135,000 property
    - £35,000 deposit
    - £22,000 salary
    - Clean credit history and no credit agreements
    - Completely chain free property

    Can I join you all?

    7/1/15 - AIP received.
    16/1/15 - Full application submitted.
19/1/15 - Request for info on an old account showing as 'open'.
20/1/15 - Request for replacement passport scan.
    22/1/15 - Valuation carried out.

Broker emailed today to say that mortgage has been offered! :T

    What a relief!

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.
  • Okay here's mine:
First Direct AIP in June, house found and lost in July/August. House purchase agreed in December.

15/12/2014 (Monday) - called FD. Told offer was no longer valid (as almost 6 months had passed). Booked mortgage interview.
17/12/2014 (Wednesday) - Mortgage Interview. AIP.
20/12/2014 (Saturday) - Application forms received in post.
22/12/2014 (Monday)- Signed forms and wage slips & bank statements posted.
31/12/2104 (Wednesday) - Agreed subject to valuation (via text)
03/01/2014 (Saturday) - text from Valuations agency; rung and paid for Homebuyers report.

Now nervously waiting for result of valuation - nothing else could stop this from happening right?

    Update:
15/01/2015 - Valuation cancelled by seller
    23/01/2015 - Valuation
    28/01/2015 - Mortage approved.

The longest wait was the valuation. Grr.
Guess it's time to go to the "Exchange" thread.
