    Hi SS,

    I am sorry to hear you and hubby have argued a little over money issues.

    It is such a tough situation and especially from your point of view!

    I really hope you meet your targets this month. You seem very focussed which is great

  • Scottish, I use my money to plug the holes in Dh budget too (like buying the food he has forgotten to buy and everything to do with the kids). I am also trying to be firm :angry:

  • Just thought I would pop in and say hi scottishspendaholic. Hope you've had a good weekend, and things haven't been to bad with your OH.

    Thats good that your tesco credit card balance is reducing, as they say, every little helps.

    Hope you have a good week of selling etc this week and you manage to keep on track with your payments.

    Keep on plodding!!

    Hi

    Didn't want to read and run the plugging of the gaps always falls to us women! Sometimes I think men just don't think about things (there should be more of them on MSE ;)) My husband only has a student loan and has never been in debt whereas I've always been... he knows all about mine but doesn't seem to appreciate that sometimes I just can't afford to get an extra pack of yogurts from the shop or some chocolate.

    I always end up giving in and leaving myself short tho! I spent last night sorting out all the bills and working out what still had to be paid when he came into the room and said thank you... I was like for what? He actually said thank you for working out all the money and paying the bills which meant a lot now all I need to get him to do is not ask for little extras without handing over the cash first :rotfl:

    We will get there in the end and it will be sooo worth it.

    Good luck with your plans for September

    Thanks everyone, so much.

    Just a quickie tonight, to let you know that I'm still here & on track. I'm still having a !!!! time with DH though, but am not going to go into that much further at the moment, suffice to say that I guess it doesn't take a genius to work out that given my massive secret debt, things aren't exactly rosy. We've been together for 13 years, and I'm fairly sure it's that fact plus the children that are glueing us together. I am much happier when he's not here and not only because I don't have to keep hiding everything and stay 100% on the ball all the time.

    As usual, I've had some money making ups and downs. I've vastly under estimated postage on a fair few items costing me around £20+ from my profits for various parcels to get to where they needed to go, I've had to refund someone on eBay as a tape she bought didn't work, I'd under-estimated my petrol by about £10 and I've had to spend money on joint things as there's no money there & we had no bread/cheese/milk/fruit and pay towards a few cheap things for the kids at the end of the holidays as there was no holiday budget left. I also won't mention the accidental £3 spent on 1/2lb of fudge. However I did make £80 on eBay last week, minus eBay & Paypal fees and I sold a book on Amazon today making me about £9 profit.

    I still need to make around £60 to break even by the end of the month so will do a big eBay sesh this week. I am a bit stuck though as I normally list everything for 99p + a BIN and previously almost always got a good price (either the BIN or people bid well above the 99p), however I think due to the high postage prices, people just aren't bidding as high & I'm letting things go for 99p that are worth so much more. I think I should put starting bids higher but the fees are a killer & I can't afford to wait until a FLW. Hmmmmmm.

    I've updated my sig to show my updated Next account as the bill has just been produced. I paid £116 this month and the balance is down by £89 & I will hopefully be paying another £14 to this on 31/8. MBNA does not produce a bill until 5/9, which will hopefully (fingers crossed!) show my big overpayment on 31/8!!

    Not so brief after all!

    I am so thankful for all the support, lots of love & thanks.

    MBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
    Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
    Bank of Scotland = £2,782.83
  • Free listing on eb@y this weekend. Hopefully you can get a bit more for your things.

    Sorry you and your DH are having a tough time Xx

    I've just read through your diary, as you posted on mine. What a really tough time you're having, and what a great job you're doing :j
    You have pressure from so many areas, kids, hubby, friends, mum etc. Is there any-one else you could tell? Could you confide in your Mum?
    I don't broadcast my situation, but I have told a close friend recently, and it has helped. Another friend asked me if I'd like to go on holiday recently, normally I would have said yes, but this time I simply said no I have to pay off my credit card first, it was quite liberating!
    Having said that, after tipping the car out to find £3 in change last week, I take the kids and their friends out for pizza to the tune of £56 - why did I do that??
    I have subscribed, you have another supporter xx :T

    BTW, does your local area have a facebook selling page? You can get good prices for kids stuff on there and no postage, although not completely anonymous!

  • Thanks guys! I will get everything scheduled for free eBay listing then! I've already listed something this morning (starting @ 99p) - stupid M&S are still sending me free hot drinks vouchers (despite me closing my account) & this morning I got 12 worth £2.65 each (total value over £30) so I stuck them on eBay. Last time I did this, I made about £15. I'm not sure about Facebook selling, it's a closed group but I'm not sure if DH would see uploaded photos/comments/text - can anyone please advise? He's not a member of the group.

    I can't tell my Mum, but may think about telling a friend - thanks skinnyl!

    I am proud of myself this morning, as I'm desperate to go & visit a new local garden centre & cafe (exciting life!) now the children are back to school & nursery. It's next to the supermarket. However, I came out of the supermarket & drove straight home, no ££ spent on lattes & cake!
