Aero glass is on it's way but it's not one I recommend as it's very very much beta right now. All the other theming stuff can be done reliably already.

Personally I don't care about the transparency or the round corners. I have a slightly more colourful theme than the default installed, lets me have purple active windows and light purple inactive ones, probably not to everyone's tastes. There's plenty of other themes out there, some of which even have rounded corners. I have one that replicates the theme of Windows 7 in pretty much every way except transparency.

I don't really get why the transparency is such a big deal tbh.

So, something you do once a day is 10-20 seconds faster.

    Get your wallets out folks!

There's a new modern version of the OS that looks horrible and isn't designed to work properly on your computer, but it does boot fast!

(Actually, the Windows 8 I have in a VM doesn't boot particularly quickly.)

Yes, not quite ready test/demonstation releases of PD software is not really what you want to introduce into the OS.

I didn't like the Windows 7 basic blue theme either, and my PC has a graphics card which is capable of rendering better quality graphics.

I was actually hoping that the new release would also introduce transparency of the windows contents (like you get on Linux), but apparently Microsoft's developers aren't competent enough to implement that, and it looks like they must've let go of the ones who could do it for the windows borders.

But how bizarre that they left the task bar's glass effect - maybe they didn't have the time before release date to take that out too.

Also, in its ever friendly user experience, I get a message on my login page saying to "Sign in and install important updates". How do you do that?

I'm waiting for windowsblinds to get their act together and reintroduce aero glass, proper shadows to stop everything looking "flat" and rounded corners, amongst other things.

Until then my Win 8 key will remain unused and gathering dust.
But WindowBlinds costs money; how bizarre that you have to spend money to get that to reintroduce a feature that worked perfectly well in the previous release.

(I have perhaps 10 Windows installation, so that $10 a pop adds up.)

BTW, StartMenuReviver is an example of how the start menu could have been approved, and you don't need to flip to another screen or use a dedicated monitor to get all of the functionality.

Transparency of window contents has existed since Windows 2000. It's just developers of individual apps need to implement it.

I'm fairly sure there's software out there to enable it for all windows if that's what you're after.

You log in (sign in is a synonym) and then go to Windows Update and install them.

I said "For me, there is not a single discernable thing about Windows 8 which is an improvement over Windows 7."; you've said it is significantly faster to boot, but I don't see that in the VM I am using.

I'm happy to take your point that it is faster to boot, but I've pointed out that that may not be particularly relevant if it only occurs once a day.

I certainly do keep my wallet where I like, and I'm not opening it to buy Windows 8.
