268 days left before patches stop is hardly dead, to get infected, you'd have to hit a webpage that the av doesn't pick up.!!

Even with an SSD, the difference is noticible.
And it isn't a full hibernate, just the kernel. Works pretty well since I'm not having to restore 12GB of memory.0 -
So, I boot my PC once a day, and if it takes 8 seconds vs. 25, is that so radical as to feature as the only discernable improvement that Windows 8 has over 7?0

Are we going to do this in every Windows 8 thread?
The OP has already bought a PC with Windows 8 on it and is having buyer's remorse, at least that was my interpretation of the OP. All I'm saying is that there's no point shelling out extra on top of what they've already spent in order to get Windows 7.0 -

And my recommendation is yes, because Windows 8 is not designed for desktop computers and deficient on them when compared to Windows 7.
(Incidentally, I tried ClassicShell, but you still get ugly flat window borders.)0 -
The very second item in the thread I linked shows how to fix the fat borders.
Registry change, or a handy free app that does the registry change for you.
Getting on just fine with Win8 on both my desktop and laptop here. Both of them were previously 7 (the desktop has also had Vista and XP on it at various points in its life), stability has been rock solid on both (literally the only crashes have been when I've been overclocking the system) and the UI on 8 is fine after fixes.0 -

Yes, you can go and do registry edits because the preferences GUI doesn't include the options. How rubbish is that?
But how do you round the corners and make them semi-transparent?
You can't.
How do you add texture?
You can't - the close box is flat flat flat.
The whole Windows 8 experience is flat, dull, and lifeless.
You can try 3rd party/freeware/shareware add-ons which may or may not be fully integrated, which may impact system stability, and which may not work in further releases of Windows 8.
For example Aero Glass 8 (http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/161788-aero-glass-for-win8-rc4/).
But how ridiculous that Microsoft decided to remove something, which many people want, and which somebody feels is worth the effort to re-implement back into the OS.
As it stands, Windows 8 is as ugly as Quasimodo on a bad hair day.0 -

I'm waiting for windowsblinds to get their act together and reintroduce aero glass, proper shadows to stop everything looking "flat" and rounded corners, amongst other things.
Until then my Win 8 key will remain unused and gathering dust.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0
