I had Win95 for a long time so I see where you're coming from. XP is indeed quite prolific still. Makes it more attractive to hackers though.
However as I said some are willing to take the risks, i'm not.0 -
If it comes with Windows 8 (or 8.1), you could always upgrade to Windows 7.0

Really interesting to read that some people are anxious about no updates from Microsoft on some Windows products.
I always do recommend having the latest updates for your system. However, when your Windows 3. 95, 98, XP or whatever, is no longer supported by Microsoft, and it is working fine for you, should you ditch it? Well, companies don't, so why should you?
So long as you have a decent antivirus and firewall, and you are careful, you should be ok for a good while yet.0 -
Don't be scared off windows XP!
Even without 'support' from microsoft it will still be 1000 times more stable than windows 8 thats for sure . . .
Microsoft are concerned that users prefer to stay on xp rather than windows 8 (I wonder why!) so they have decided to use fear tactics to get people to change . . ..
Nice huh?!?!?!?I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!
New signature - I am a Plumber (I am just not allowed to tell you!)0 -

I kept using Win95 because I had no choice, and I didn't know any better frankly.
This time I am not prepared to use an OS no longer fully protected by Microsoft.
And to be honest the Windows 8 on netbook has great speeds I get a little impatient when I have to use the XP PC!
I do agree though that Microsoft are only withdrawing XP support to push their newer systems.0 -

XP has had nearly 13 years0 -

It probably has to do with the spec of pc - ram is the main factor when it comes to speed, then the processor . . . .
Windows 7 and 8 are very resource hungry and require much speedier pc'c to run.
I had a high spec PC running Xp back in the days and it moved like greased lightning!!!
Even now my nice laptop that runs windows 7 has a fat 6gb of ram running on 2.2ghz processors.I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

Does it?
I left XP behind many years ago
It was good in its day and still is for a basic user no doubt
however its not up to spec on many things
networking and sharing over network would be one for me
from W7 (lets skim over Vista) its been far easier/capable
So are we saying 3 Os's after XP, that M$ are now 'pushing' their newer OS's?0
