I am one of the people who press the spam button when I see the kitchen thread. I do this because a MSE moderator said it helped them remove the offending comment quicker. The moderator requested that we continue to press the Spam icon when we see the thread.
If this is not the case then I'm very happy to stop doing it as it isn't exactly the most exciting thing to do with my time!
Could a moderator please comment on whether it is or is not helpful for people to press the Spam button when they see the kitchen adverts.
Pressing the spam button is what you should do. But don't do what some people do, and reply.0 -

It certainly is helpful, as not only will it be removed automatically if enough people click, when that happens the forumteam will also be alerted and so can deal with that user account.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

What I meant earlier is not that you should not report it, but posting that something is spam in the topic is fairly useless. All it tends to do is boost your post count with no real benefit to the forum. It is much the same as editing one of your questions and posts to say "answered"; how does that help anyone if they are looking for the same answer?
If I see spam on the forum such as the false passports or kitchen crap I will report and then move on, why keep it at the top of the forum in everyones head?
Of course, that is my opinion and others would have different viewpoints"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
Would it be possible to have the :spam: button at the top of the post as some of the :spam: posts are very long and take "ages" to scroll through. :beer:0

I am guessing it would take some major redesign of the board and it would probably break; better just to leave it "as is""Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0

Depends where that code resides. It could take some major hacking of the code, or it could be just a minor tweak to a template. Hard to say.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I would prefer systems to be set up to deal with spam personally such as killing someones posting ability if they end up with too many spam reports rather than purely cosmetic changes that shave off a split second, but I suppose there could be room for finding out if it is possible"Don't blink. Posting that something is spam adds nothing to a post count* but it may help the original post get enough "spams" to get it moved off the board faster.
(*post count will drop back as soon as the thread is deleted)0 -
Most spam is well known to occur at night when no one is around to deal with it, that is well known. If a BG (board guide for newer members) has abilities on that board it will be dealt with if they are around.
We cannot see when anything is reported so just delete as we do, and if we do it gets spotted by the forum team anyway as a matter of course.
There is nothing wrong with multiple people pressing the report button, but there is no point in spamming a thread yourself in order to tell people what they already know
It would be interesting however to get an official line frm a FT member, I am new to the BG thing on this MSE though every forum I have ever moderated says the same thing, don't spam spam threads lol"Don't blink.
