MSE appears very selective in what they consider as spam.

This thread is full of spam from the very 1st post!:
[search the thread 'HGV medicals rip-off' - as a newbie I cannot put a weblink]

I replied to one of the posts specifically asking for information of a cheap company in the NorthWest but it was deleted on the basis of advertising. It appears another member was targeted by a senior member on page 2.

I can accept the reason why my post was deleted but then when the same rule isn't applied to the rest of the thread, this site smells of double standards.

    Very off-putting for new members.

Have you reported the offending posts?

This forum, unlike most others you'll find on t'internet, is not actively moderated but rather the Forum Team reacts to reports received. If your post was removed it was because someone reported it and the FT agreed is was against the rules (or lots of people hit the spam button of your post - you can appeal to the FT if you think this was unfair)
If your post was considered inappropriate, yet others similar ones remain, it is probably because no one has actually reported the other posts.

(Although it could simply be a difference of opinion. As the name suggests, the FT is a team of people and so different individuals may review alerts received, and as is human, what one find borderline inappropraite, another may find bordeline acceptable)

Could someone please tell me what these kitchen spammers are hoping to gain. I know they want customers, but surely by now they have realised it isn't working. It must take an age to keep opening new accounts and writing posts. Just for us to press spam and them disappear. They post at silly o'clock in the morning so the amount of people that even seeing the thread is small.

I've come close to clicking the spam button on your posts saying you've reported the spammers, because yours is the one that comes up as the most recent post.

Please just report it and stop making it a bit harder for others who are also clicking on the spam button to do that quickly and accurately.

I post on them so I know which ones I have reported. It saves me looking at the same post again and again as there are so many.

    Sorry if this upsets you.

You can use easy methods to tell whether you have reported a post:

    1. The read or not message indication in your web browser. If it shows up as read you know you've already dealt with it.
    2. The spam icon near the top of the post to tell you that you've reported it as spam.
    3. The spam button changes to a not spam button.

What you are doing causes me and undoubtedly others to have to look again because your refresh the topics with new posts, clearing the already read indicator.

For you it might be more efficient if none of the other three does the job for you but you're adding more work for the other people who are reporting them. That's not very welcome when there are lots of posts to work through.

I think it may be easier if I just let you get on with it then.

    What are they seeking? Attention.
You see the posts (and presumably others do too), so they are achieving their aim.

By responding and/or discussing their activities here, you are just encouraging them further.

Then you (and others) come along at 6am and bump all the threads up to the top of the boards and search ficility and they get the exposure again, double the exposure for half the effort.

Wow. Calm down folks. I can't believe how aggressive some people sound. I hope you wouldn't talk to people like that face to face.

We are all (I think) trying our best to remove the spam from the boards. We may have different approaches which you might disagree with but please remember that people are doing what they are doing because they are trying to help.

Although I know moderators have said pressing the spam button is helpful but they haven't given a reply as whther pressing the reply button is good or bad.

I can see both sides of the argument. By pressing the reply button you bring the spam to the top- people see it and it is quickly removed or by replying you give the spammer more time at the top and have helped them advertise. Neither argument can be said to be right or wrong.

So now I will probably be told I'm wrong. I now remember why I don't normally subscribe to threads or make comments. Enjoy the sun, have a coffee, smile and be nice to each other:)

Well said Poc. I don't normally enter into these discussions, and found myself in this one by accident. I agree with Poc. Spammers need to know that they will be found out and removed. Many people on MSE are trying to see that happens. If they do it in different ways so what, as long as the end result is the same. Enjoy the sun while you can, it could be snowing next week! ;)
