  • Referring back to my earlier post on 14th August on this thread, I received my first statement in today's post and am pleased to report that Barclaycard have kept their word and not charged me any interest. Having made a £5 purchase on top of the £8,300 balance transfers I am quoted an estimated interest of the correct 50p for next month's statement.

On the question of where the alleged £5,000 transfer limit was imposed, which I see is also addressed in other threads, the application form which I filled in did have a box at the bottom offering the facility to apply for balance transfers at the time of application for the card, and it did stipulate a maximum of £5,000 per month, but I chose to transfer two balances (at the same time) by telephone after I had received the card, so they couldn't really plead that as an excuse.

Thanks Martin and all contributors for a very informative forum. If I am allowed to say this, I have now changed my newspaper allegiance!
  • Really fed up with Barclaycard they will not budge on the credit limit and I may rip the card up 3 k is no good to me .
I hate there customer service . I find MBNA far better

  • :D hello eveyone, baraclaycard are really crafty :-X

Most of my credit cards have high limits that are unused, Barclaycard offered me a pittance of less than £1000 credit limit, nothing compared to the others. I applied for an increase to £2000 which was accepted. I went to do my transfer and was told that although my credit limt was £2000 I could only transfer a balance at 0% of £1000!

I have never had a credit card company limit the amount of balance transfer in such a way. It is half of my credit limit. I explained that the whole idea of having 0% was to transfer a balance not to make retail purchaes on the card. They simply said they can set the transfer limit to whatever they want. I shall of course be making a complaint. I feel that Barclaycard are inhibiting benefits to their customers and getting around the offer by providing poor credit and transfer limits.

Sorry to go but I have at least found one way (all be it a bit long winded one) of taking advantage of the benefits of retail spending, i.e extended warranty and 10% off at allsports with the Premiership Barclaycard.

What I did was make my purchases and got 10% off, I then withdrew money from another credit card to my current account and paid Barclaycard off. Once Barclaycard was clear I transfered a balance back to the other card from Barclaycard.

It may seem like a lot of trouble but if you buy an expensive household item and would like the extra 12 months warranty, do this and still enjoy the 0%. Of course you have to make sure that you can transfer the balance within the timescale. Also make the balance transfer by phone as there is no way to tell on the internet if you are still entitled to the 0% rate,

    Steph

Dispite being with Barclaycard for nearly two years and make payments on time they have sidelined the issue of increasing my limit or reducing my interest by advising me to apply for another card of which after applying they refused. When I called them once again they gave the same advice and again I got turned down.Pretty fed up by now I emailed them and no reply, and so another Email to Barclays reminding them that as a loyal customer I would at least like an answer to my Emails and also inquired if I was one of those customers who are subsidising their 0% offer but, no reply.

Tonight I have sent Barclays another Email and referred them to this page because as always their customer service stinks.
Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

:-X I too recieved a Barclaycard with a credit limit of £3500 on their 0% Balance transfer and £1.00 minimum spend.
I phoned to make a balance transfer of £3495.
The rep was fine until I told him it was from a Bank of Ireland card. He then told me I could not transfer money from this card, and he advised me to move the money to another card and then transfer it to my BarclayCard.
I was not sure if this was correct, so I phoned again to check his advice.
This time I was told that the 0% balance transfer was only valid for 60 days, and as I had missed this deadline, the only offer now availble to me was a transfer limit of £1000 balance at 0% but with a minimum spend of £50 per month, with the remainder of my transfer request being at 6.9%.
I told them that I was informed that I had 3 months in which to make the transers. There reply was "Sorry if you were misinformed|".
After 45 mins talking to different levels of rep,up to team manager, I was told that if I wanted my original deal reinstated, I would have to write to customer services.
I have posted the letter today, with an extract of Martins Q&A's from Barclaycard Senior Managers.
Waiting in anticipation for their reply.

Just seen this thread. Oh!!!! Did not realise that max transfer is £5000 for 0%. HAve transfer more than that. Have also been charged interest on the balance that is greater than the £5000.

Have anyone manage to the interest refunded or how to get around this problem? Going to ring customer service later today?

    Please advise.
  • I had real problems getting a second balance transfer I was told when I rang the 0% / £1 spend only applied in the first month, to cut a long story short I challenged them on this and was passsed from one person to another different departments ,but the point I want to make is that the reasons that BC gave for not honouring the transfer changed with every person I talked to and all of them saying they couldn't 'force it through' they didn't have the power , it just seemed they have a list of excuses written in front of them and when you knock one down they hit you with another, they basically keep going in the hope you back down My advice is don't in the end they said they couldn't do any thing for me I just said I wasn't happy with the way they treated me and if I din't get a satisfactory result from their complaints dept I would take it to the FSA.Next day phone call from the complaints dept balanced transfered 0% / £1 as much as I wanted they just try to grind you down Stick to ya guns
  • Have £7K on Barclaycard on £1 per month spend 0%offer. We donate £1 per month to a charity and that is our only spend.

On our sixth statement and noticed instead of being charge £0.05 interest this month they've charged us £0.50 (1st month got charged £0.00, 2nd month got charged £0.01, 3rd month £0.02, 4th month £0.03 and so on. Rang and they have agreed to credit it and raise it as a query. Only a pittance but its the principle.

Incidently we initially asked for £5k to be tranferred when we applied and when we received our acceptance we'd been given a £7k credit limit so after reading Martins notes on 3 months to do additional 0% balance transfers rang up and transferred the following months spend (£2k). No mention of any maximum percentage and apart from this month its been running smoothly, we've set-up the donation on the internet and a standing order to pay the minimum which we change each month down to the lower amount. We did use to have a Barclaycard a few years back so don't feel too guilty!! ;)

I just put a reply to this on the Barclaycard Hunt thread, but as i said there surely the 50p interest is something we all agreed to when signing the form seeing as it stated in the T&C's that the minimum interest charge would be 50p.
