mel734 wrote:I just got 'silver' cover with Europ assistance thru the moneysaving supermarket for £36! It includes recovery, car hire, transport of up to 7 people to destination or their choice within UK all sorts of legal cover etc etc (I did read the small print honest!) The only proviso is £40 excess for breakdown within a mile of home which was fine by me. Even their website quotes 'from £43' so can't complain. Thanks for all the tips, I wouldn't have shopped around so much if it hadn't been for here!
I wonder if this is such a good deal? So if you require breakdown cover at home you will have to pay £40 on top of the £36 you have already paid. That equals £76.00. There are plenty of breakdown products out there providing a homestart benefit, for less than this, eg my own cover with Breakdown Direct @ £68.95. Guess the best advise is not to breakdown at home (or within a mile).

If you fancy using the RAC at a bargain price, membership is available using Tesco ClubCard Vouchers at a voucher face value of £11.25 (RAC - £45) to £30.75 (RAC - £123) (see https://www.tesco.com/clubcard/clubcard/index1.htm) Other offers are available.
If you pay off your credit card in full every month the Tesco Credit Card offers 3 points for every £2 spent in a Tesco store and 1 point for every £2 spent everywhere else that you use your card.0 -
We have found Age Concern to be by far the cheapest for fully comprehensive motor recovery, regards oap (also for car insurance too)0

I have now contacted Auto Aid 4 times and asked them to post some details to me yet to date, 4 weeks later I have not received anything - I have checked with them each time that they have my correct address. If they are like this when I am trying to give them my business, I am concerned about what they would be like if I needed to use their services afterwards. Also if you ring them when they aren't open, there is no message to say they aren't open, they just say all their lines are busy and put you in a queue!!! I don't think I'll bother with them!!0

Is Autonational still the best way to go for this?
Am currently with the RAC which, I have been informed is going up to £10.50 as of this month. Autonational, I believe, you can get cover for the whole year for approx £29?
I would appreciate your input on this one.0 -
try this...I always use it each year and seems to come up trumps

I just wanted to say that I have always used AutoNational and thought they were great, so I recommended them to my daughter when she bought her first car recently. However, she saw that Norwich Union were advertising a couple of pounds cheaper and phoned them up. Instead of the £56 she was expecting, they quoted £87. When asked why, they said it depended on the age and model of the car! I thought that they were pretty misleading. Also, the guy tried to chat my daughter up and made her feel very uncomfortable. She ended up going with Diamond which she found even cheaper than AutoNational.0

I've just signed up with Quoteline Direct by telephone as I found that my web browser was not showing an encrypted connection when I got to entering my credit card details. Sadly this was through an 0870 number but that's still better than publishing my name, address and phone number along with my card details to the world at large!0
