You can get roadside cover with the RAC using Tesco vouchers. £11.25 of vouchers gets you basic recovery for a year. The super duper top of the range service costs £30.75 in vouchers (A saving of £92.25). If you have a tesco clubcard and a tesco credit card and shop in tesco a lot, you will soon get enough vouchers (about £450 in spend I reckon).0

The GEM policy is available for £35 from the MoneySupermarket website.
I think this includes membership of the Guild of Experienced Motorists.... Now I know they sound like a bunch of BOFs but you get various other discount offers. See

Until a couple of years ago I had used the Autoaid service for many years and also made a claim one one occasion with no problems. However, I then discovered what seems to me to be a much better deal offered by Rowett insurance brokers in St Austell Cornwall which is cheaper (£25) and also includes Europoean cover. I cannot comment on the claims side as I have not yet had a breakdown but it is supposedly underwritten by Europ Assistance for continental cover which sounds good to me as I travel regularly to France. Check it out at http://www.rowett-insurance.co.uk/insurance/breakdown_cover.htm
BTW it is best to phone them as they do not seem to respond very readily to web page requests.0 -

this does not seem to include home start, whereas autoaid does.0 -
I've had the RAC Roadside breakdown cover package for the last 6 years. Just got a renewal for £66. They're selling the same thing on their website for £56!
So that's an opportunity to pay an extra tenner as a reward for loyalty.
However, just found out from JohalaReewi
on this forum that I can get the cover with Tesco vouchers, so that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for that!0 -
hi all,
can anyone provide some insight on the following, all related to the cover that AutoAid can provide:
1) I've had my car converted to LPG, will this affect the price or level of cover provided?
2) due to above mentioned conversion i no longer have a spare wheel in the boot, as this space is used by the LPG tank, therefore, will AutoAid cover me if i have a puncture, and is there a requirement by AutoAid to always carry a spare wheel? Even if i did carry a spare wheel i doubt i would be able to undo the nuts holding the wheel onto its hub. I've tried before and they are completely seized up. If i did suffer from a puncture, would i be towed to a garage or just the nuts loosened for me and then left high and dry becuase i should carry a spare wheel well.
3) i recently had to swerve to miss a truck driver who veered into my lane and as a result clipped a curb with the tyre. Said tyre now boasts a nice chunk taken out of the side wall. I know this is dangerous to drive with, but i don't do motorway miles and i really dont want to fork out £100 for a new tyre.
4) how much is a joint cover?
5) going off topic slightly, but has anyone used one of those emergency puncture repair kits for car tyres. usually in the form of an aerosol can with foam inside which soon seals the puncture.
apologies for the exhaustive message.

best to call them and ask with your questions.
joint cover is £29 !0 -
Hope this might help some of us ... If you bank with Lloyds and have either a Gold or Platinum current account, then AA membership for you (not the vehicle) is FREE - No catches that I'm aware of. You need to keep a small balance in the account for it to be totally free, but even with an O/D, it's a couple quid a month. Got a view Martin .... or anyone else ? Steve TNo reliance should be placed on the above.0

Be very careful to check if your insurance covers you for recovery in the event of an ACCIDENT. Many policies only cover breakdowns so bear in mind that modern cars rarely break down but on today's crowded roads the chances of being immobilised as a result of an accident are maybe just as significant. Imagine your predicament miles from home when your 'breakdown service' won't come to your rescue. Read the small print or ask before you sign up as they won't mention this limitation!0

Good point, but your insurer should recover your vehicle if it's immobilised, if you have an accident.
I know that the insurers try it on and get your breakdown company to recover to save themselves money, but I don't believe that they can refuse to recover it if you are claiming for the accident.0
