OK, but:
If you are insured only 3rd party your insurer won't recover you free...
Or the accident may not have been your fault and you don't want to involve your insurer (also the other party may be uninsured) ...
Or you may prefer to repair damage yourself/privately ...
AND even if your insurer will pay for recovery, it may be only to the nearest repair centre OF THEIR CHOOSING hundreds of miles from your home address.
When I checked the AA and Norwich Union didn't recover from accidents but GEM and GreenFlag do. You could be in for an unpleasant surprise, but my advice would be to check up now rather than later!0 -
You can get roadside cover with the RAC using Tesco vouchers. £11.25 of vouchers gets you basic recovery for a year.0

This is fantastic. In 2 hours, using https://www.confused.com I saved over £130 with car insurance and breakdown cover.
I am one very happy person!0 -
Can somebody let me know how do I get in touch with AutoAid, as earlier on today my wife's car broke down and I had to pay £69 "ouch" to have it towed two miles to the nearest VW garage?0

You need to ring BONCASTER Insurance brokers & ask for AutoAid details.
I don't have their number to hand, sorry, but I'm sure some other poster will come up with it for you. Otherwise have a hunt for Martin's relevant article on the subject on the main site. The truth is out there!Expect the worst & hope for the best...0 -

My other half gets his car insurance through Budget (cheapest for him) and gets full RAC cover. Never had to use them yet though.
My AA cover is up for renewal in July and I will definitely NOT be renewing as it's just so expensive. Touch wood I haven't had to call them out for the past few years, and when I did have to they got a bit shirty when I mentioned that I was a female by myself on the hard shoulder of the A1!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I just got 'silver' cover with Europ assistance thru the moneysaving supermarket for £36! It includes recovery, car hire, transport of up to 7 people to destination or their choice within UK all sorts of legal cover etc etc (I did read the small print honest!) The only proviso is £40 excess for breakdown within a mile of home which was fine by me. Even their website quotes 'from £43' so can't complain. Thanks for all the tips, I wouldn't have shopped around so much if it hadn't been for here!0

What does it mean by "Pay and Claim" for autoaid? can anyone enlighten me. What do you get for this amount.
I prefer to have road side rescue, if not possibel tow to garage and some home start
I am currently paying £70 for full comp with Britannia rescue (includes some CSMA discount) As I hardly use teh car 3,000 miles or less a years and its only for pleasure I am begining to think I am paying over the odds, although I have used the rescue twice in 4 years.
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -
Simply means that when you breakdown, you have to pay the attending contractor, and then reclaim your expenses from autoaid. So you must either carry cash or a credit card, so you can pay on the spot. Traditional breakdown cover pays all the costs without this 'pay and claim' process. Note the reason why autoaid is cheaper is becasue a significant number of members never bother to claim - why?, probably inertia. So unless you are absolutely certain that you will claim your costs back, you'd be better off with a more traditional breakdown compnay.0
