Gf of 6 years dropping massive hints. More people we know seem to be going for it and getting engaged(alot seem to do it to show intention but not actually to plan a wedding)

Both sets of parents still with one another, quite traditional views, house, marrage, kids etc in order. So will be asking for her dads "approval", cant see there being a problem :rotfl:

Just want to do something a bit better than normal "down on one knee in crowded place" stories iv been hearing of recently.....thoughts folks?

First of all, you mean 'propose', not 'purpose'. Don't get down on one knee and say 'darling, I want to purpose to you'! ;)

My husband flew me to Prague for a surprise weekend over Valentine's day. He had told me we were going away for one night somewhere in the UK. Then in the morning he gave me an early present. I opened it and it was a hat and gloves. I was obviously confused...then he said 'you will need this, as we are going somewhere very cold!'

When in Prague we were out for a walk and he was desperate to get to the castle for some reason. Even when we were cold and tired and getting lost, he insisted we find the castle. When we did....in front of the beautiful castle, in the snow, with an amazing view over the city, he proposed. He made me hang around until the courtyard was empty (not that I knew why he was lingering) so it wasn't in front of loads of people. He didn't get down on one knee as there was so much snow on the floor but also that isn't appropriate for our relationship. He just took my hands, turned to me and said "I have a question to ask you". Immediately my heart went into my mouth but thinking he was going to say something trivial and not wanting to get my hopes up, I sad very grumpily "what?!" ....he never lets me forget that! :)

Lovely as this was, though, I would have been just as happy if he'd turned to me over breakfast one day and asked the question. How it was asked really didn't matter to me and I think a lot of women are the same. If anything, all the 'grand gestures' and the crazy videos you see on youtube of flash mob proposals etc are a bit cringeworthy. So don't get too caught up thinking you have to do something spectacular. I'm sure she will be thrilled however you pop the question :)

I didn't even notice that spelling, posting on my iphone! So hopefully i can go and edit it out! That does sound good, did he have a ring or let you choose it? Seems most people have a ring instantly but i wouldnt want to be responsable for whats on her hand for the rest of her days!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Mine wasn't romantic, his one fail at that really. ;). But he did ask exactly to the day a year after we met, (our anniversary) and I was Unwell so there was limited capacity for romance.

But I agree with daisygg. It's not the big flash things, the heartfelt Eye, contact, and the sincere smile, the holding here hand...

I wouldn't mind either way the kneeling.....

The simple is a cliche because its what it is, a promise of the two of you. The jazz is unnecessary and IMO, makes it a little less ....pure.

Mine was in Paris. :) We went for a walk around the Eiffel Tower, it was quiet and the lights started to sparkle. :)

He got down on one knee and I told him off because the ground was muddy!! :rotfl:

He choose my ring- wouldn't have it any other way. :D

Whatever you decide to do, don't wait too long: Girls can get fed up waiting, and there's a chance every holiday/birthday/special outing will get spoiled as she'll be waiting for a proposal which doesn't come.

I think letting the woman choose is a nice idea. As you say she will be wearing this ring for the rest of her life. You may know your partners preferences really well but this is something you want her to love and value 100%. My ex proposed using a cheap token ring, and we then went out together and picked one I really loved.

However you decide to propose I hope it is a very special moment for you both. Good luck :)
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

At home, pottering in the kitchen, not on one knee, no ring. Still put the biggest smile ever on my face though:D
2 years ago tomorrow, married 10 weeks later.

I loved choosing my own ring.:D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
