We will be married 32 years in August.
He didn't seek my dads permission as I was an adult, and I chose my own ring.
If you want to ask her to marry you just ask. The question is more important than grand romantic gestures.
Ah that's how my ex proposed to me
It was in the grounds of the Childwall Abbey pub in Liverpool. It's at the top of a big hill and in the spot we were stood the lights of South Liverpool were twinkling behind us. He got down on one knee and I told him not to be so daft and get up! (it was raining at the time) it was very romantic and very lovely. He bought me a temporary ring with a teardrop shaped cubic zirconia (it was actually very nice and it was real gold) until he had saved enough money to get me my real ring which was a white gold princess cut diamond. It was a shame that the relationship ended but he was toxic for me - we weren't good together. I'm resigned to becoming an old maid now

My husband suggested we move in together in a kebab shop while we were waiting for our takeaway.
Later, we got married, but I can't say he proposed - unless "my mother thinks we should get married" counts.
He had another chance as we renewed our vows a couple of years back but this time he "didn't get round to it" (his words, honest). I renewed my vows through gritted teeth.

In a lake. It was the final night of a week's working holiday with the National Trust (his first, my 15th or so) and the showers at our accommodation were really feeble so most evenings we traipsed down to the lake (Windermere) instead to get clean after a hard day's drystone walling. Luckily the weather was good that week!
Once everyone else had got out and headed back to the accommodation, he went down on one knee in the water and proposed. There was no ring; he didn't trust himself to make a choice I'd like, but of course there was also the potential issue of it getting dropped in the lake! Instead we went shopping for one together a few days later.0 -

Both sets of parents still with one another, quite traditional views, house, marrage, kids etc in order. So will be asking for her dads "approval", cant see there being a problem :rotfl:
Just want to do something a bit better than normal "down on one knee in crowded place" stories iv been hearing of recently.....thoughts folks? If you haven’t already, join the forum to reply. If you aren’t sure how it all works, read our New to Forum? Intro Guide.

Hi YoungBusinessman! I've done a lot of research on proposals as I'm one of the UK's only proposal planners. My advice would be, whatever you choose to do, to make it personal to you both as individuals and your relationship.
Make a list of all her favourite things and key moments, places and memories from your relationship and then select your favourites to build the proposal around. Show her you know her and why you love her.
As others have said, what really counts is that you have found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with and telling her so doesn't necessarily mean writing it in the sky or a flash mob singing it (though some people love the grand, public, gestures - you'll know if this is the case for your girlfriend); you just need to identify key aspects (pet names, significant places, colours or objects) and moments from your relationship and use them to show her what she means to you.
One of my favourite proposals took place at the couple's home. He booked a day off work, set up a trail around the house of picture frames containing pictures of key moments from their relationship with arrows made of her favourite flowers to lead her around the house (through memory lane) and out onto the patio, which was also decorated with her favourite flowers. There she found a final frame, facing away. When she reached it she found a mirror and at that moment she heard his voice saying "This will be my favourite memory of all." She turned to find him on one knee with the ring.Their proposal was intimate and low key but was special because it fitted their personalities and was unique to them.
Also, make it a surprise. For that reason, I'd advise not doing it on event days like Christmas or Valentine's day: proposing on an ordinary day means she'll not be suspecting a thing and the anticipation will build slowly, making the moment itself all the sweeter!
Good luck! :happyhear:starmod: Everything will be ok in the end; if it's not ok, it's not the end :starmod:
A HUGE thank you to all that post competitions0 -
My boyfriend proposed in the spring under the northern lights in Iceland. Very lucky to get such a romantic proposal!0

My DH proposed to me 10 minutes after we met in a pub on Christmas Eve! I said I needed some time .... he proposed again at midnight and I said yes. We couldn't afford a ring so didn't get "officially" engaged until end January. We married mid April. We've been married for 42 years now and all our family didn't think it was last more than 6 months.

Some lovely romantic proposals
Wonder if any females have proposed to their man?
We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
My OH proposed in Tescos on New Year's Day in Inverness while we were visiting my mum.
He turned round and said "Do you wanna get married" I just said "yeah ok".
He couldn't even afford a ring I had to buy it.
He replaced it with my proper ring 2 years later. This time he shouted catch and threw it towards me in the kitchen.
He had the chance to make up but chose to throw instead. Ever the romantic
The Best Man even made a joke about it at the weddingFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
That's when it clicked as he'd always said (after having a painful divorce) that he'd not ask anyone to marry him again until hell was frozen over.
I'm such a sap, this actually made me cry! I dated my boyfriend in sixth form, 7 years ago, and we parted ways. I found him on Facebook two years ago and we started a FWB thing. He refused to open up to me and I really struggled as I fell in love with him. He'd been so badly hurt in the past. But now we're happily together and I feel as though he's The One (excuse me whilst I go vomit :rotfl:)I like to make money
