    You can say that again.

I was aghast at the invented excuses for not showing a valid badge from people who weren't even there :rotfl:

I was equally aghast at someone thinking he had the right to demand to see one, normally a huge no no on this forum.

And whether she did or not have a BB then this would have been very unkind. Still we now see the true colours of the pro disabled, anti everyone else, people on this board. One advocates chucking a brick at someone's car, another letting the tyres down.

I trust the next time anyone on here is challenged about their use of the BB, whether legitimate or not, they will not be too disconcerted when they return to vandalism of their vehicle

    What a thread!!.

I cannot get over some peoples perceptions of how a disabled person with a blue badge should look, behave, only drive a certain type of car, not to go certain places etc etc.

These perceptions certainly cause a lot of grief for a chap in our town. His 'crime'? Well despite being disabled he works as a Postman, not one who delivers house to house on foot, but he drives a Royal Mail van (adapted) and collects the mail from Pillar boxes and outbound mail from some business premises.

He has a blue badge to help him park near to the premises he collects from and nearer to pillar boxes in shops etc. He is infact a double leg amputee having lost his legs whilst serving in the army. Although he 'looks' okay anyone seeing him actually walking can see he has problems on his prosthetics.

However the amount of grief and vitreol he gets from other people is staggering. They see a Royal Mail van parked in a disabled bay and automatically go off on one (They never seem to check his van to see if he has a badge nor actually look at the person). His managers have received numerous complaints (How dare the Royal Mail park their vans in a disabled bay? etc). His van has been blocked in by angry people, has been scratched/keyed numerous times, has tyres slashed and even had paint thrown over it.

The poor chap is actually one of my neighbours and is a really nice chap who just gets lots of grief for trying to do his job.

Why can't society get over the perceptions about disabled spaces and blue badges and what a disabled person should drive, work at, etc. Until such time as people do we are living in a very selfish and ignorant world.

    Perceptions, bah!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
My child would have probably "RAN" into the clinic and he is disabled as he has autism. I don't have a blue badge for him but I know other people with autistic kids do and its for that reason that they are likely to have a meltdown, or run across a busy car park so the closer they are to the clinic/supermarket the safer for them. These hidden disabilities make it hard to judge so maybe we shouldn't be so quick to. I did recently get annoyed when I couldn't use the parent and child space at Asda, as a middle aged woman on her own nabbed it. Now that was obvious unless she had an invisible child! This thread makes me think of the Michael McIntyre sketch about disabled parking.

Being "equally" aghast between 1) parking in a disabled spot without any relevant permissions to do so when we have a system designed to stop people abusing that concession by depriving the more worthy and 2) mentioning the fact to the miscreant... seems the more peculiar attitude to me.

Show me where I said that I demanded to see the blue badge!

Then no point in posting and expect everyone to agree with you.

Absolutely. And I do not expect everyone to agree with me. However, what I find rather hypocritical of you is that you accused me of making assumptions and then did exactly the same thing yourself. The fact that you are ignoring this point in your subsequent posts speaks volumes.

What a jolly good read this thread has been. Almost like the 'blue badge warriors' having a good old punch up over the last remaining space in a car park.

Personally I get fed up with having to drive round and round looking for a space. Of course there are some that totally abuse their position whilst there are others that don't even have a badge.

Me? I just park up for 3 hours on the nearest bit of double yellow lines, smile and walk away. Life is too short and I'm too damn old to go round having punch ups!
Oh yes, I too drive a large 4x4 which probably makes me ignorant as well! I particularly don't like car parks full stop. Given the width and length of a normal parking bay I can never get my car inside the box. Which obviously leaves the vehicle open to damage which would really upset me considering that I have had to work the equivalent of 2 years x average income to buy it (£52,000) in the first place.
