Wait until the thread "what really is a disability" gets started and all the parents of kids who have no idea they are disabled, yet drive, drink, nightclub when over 16, yet under that age, the Parents CONVINCED they're disabled, starts!
That one goes on for ages.0 -
Not defending those parents who have their kids wrongly diagnosed with various conditions just for the benefit claims, but.....Brassedoff wrote: »Wait until the thread "what really is a disability" gets started and all the parents of kids who have no idea they are disabled, yet drive, drink, nightclub when over 16, yet under that age, the Parents CONVINCED they're disabled, starts!

Are you saying that disabled people shouldn't be able to drive? drink? go to nightclubs?
Despite being disabled I have done all 3 of those.
Also there are various behaviour disorders which whilst the kids are just that, kids, they have no control over some or all of thier emotions, their actions etc etc. Despite what some people think these conditions are very real, with very real consequences.
Our daughter has suspected ODD, she cannot help her emotions, she becomes extremely angry for no apparent reason. My wife has numerous bruises off her where she has 'turned' for no apparent reason.
She has broken doors, pulled plaster off the wall right down to the brickwork.
She has no concept of following instruction.
You can tell her not to do something, and then 5 minutes later she will be doing it again, with no recollection of having been told not to.
We don't claim any benefit for her condition and can only hope she grows out of it, but unlike ADHD there is no medication for it. Ritalin is ineffective.
Just because you don't fully understand a condition doesn't mean those parents are pulling the wool over peoples eyes.
As with everything, you have to walk a mile in someone elses shoes before making a judgement.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

There is no such thing as a fully able or fully disabled person, we can all do things others can't and not do things others can, all are graded according to social and medical models and abilities or disabilities that arise from this.
Although the gov etc try to equalise this so everyone is on a level playing field there will always be discrepancies and unfairness in the real world, most here who now have a disability if they were honest would never have batted an eyelid before or contemplated their fellow citizens invalidity unless they were associated with them through family/friends etc0 -

You could go on forever with suppositions she didn't display it, this is a contravention0 -

Why wouldn't a disabled person want to do all of these things when they turn 16? .0
