Had a lovely weekend with hubby. Went out for breakfast this morning, walk in the sunshine, meander past some shops. Now Im a real jewellery fan and I stopped at a jewellery shop to look in the window. I saw some lovely earrings (not expensive) in silver and pointed them out to hubby, you know hint hint for birthday or xmas.
After dinner tonight he told me I should have asked for the earrings, that he would have bought them for me. I said that if he wanted to buy them he should have done, I wasn't about to ask for pressies. Im now really annoyed - why tell me he was going to buy me a present but didn't....?? Zero brownie points!
Just having a rant.....

Men don't understand hints.. If you want it.. say so...
Hints in here go.. 'I love that.. that was a birthday/Christmas hint for you.. make a note'
Maybe he was testing to see if you wanted them so he can go back and get them at a later date.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I don't think that hinting is the best way to get what you want.
I don't see why you are annoyed. If you wanted them so much, why not buy them yourself?
You say you had a lovely weekend with him but you are now upset that he didn't buy you a pair of earrings. Seems a shame to end the weekend on that note, poor guy.0 -
If they are still there tomorrow go and get them, either you or him.0

I usually get a business card with the details written on, but the owner was out of cards. So its not so much as a hint, as a here are the details, purchase it at some point.
I didn't buy them myself as Im saving towards my holiday and a new piece of jewellery is not a necessity.......
Im only annoyed he even mentioned it, had he not, I would never have given it another thought.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
Maybe he told you so that in future, if you see something you want, you'll ask him outright instead of hinting and have him risk missing the hints? He probably didn't just buy them because he wasn't sure if you really wanted them or not, even if he did pick up on hints.0

That isn't what he said though is it. You pointed out some earrings that you liked, expecting your husband to take a subtle hint, and make a mental note for your birthday or Xmas. He later made a logical comment, that if you had wanted to have them all you had to do was say so, and he would have happily bought them for you. Now you are annoyed with him.....poor bloke cant win can he.The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
No, he can win.
He took note of the shop name. Could have bought the gift for my birthday or xmas - win.
He could have bought the gift for me today - win.
Or he could have said nothing and never bought them for me - still win.
To say oh I would have bought them invites the response - well why didn't you?? Mentioning it just draws attention to the fact he didn't buy them......Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
You were playing games, I reckon - so I'm on husband's side here. Be open....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

This is true for the most part I guess but hints annoy me. If you want something, just bloody say.
I like to get my friends (both male and female) pressies (nothing expensive though) for birthdays and xmas but to avoid disappointment or getting them something they dont want, I always ask them to tell me what they want. If they say nothing, they get nothing. Likewise with family.
Ok so its not a surprise when I present them with it but I consider this better than getting something they dont want in the first place.
I dont do hints. Either you want something or you dont.0 -

Sometimes women's logic baffles me, and I am a woman. You reason that your husband could win if he had basically ignored your hints, said nothing and never bought you the earrings. Yet he is on a fail because he is thoughtful and said if you want something just ask me and you can have it. Hmmmm okay, how back to front is that :cool:The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame.
