It's probably a first job, it gives her an insight into working and she will gain some experience from it. No one is saying that a several hours is the same as working for a company for two years.
It'd probably make it easier for her to get a job at Next in the future if she has already worked for them.
If you have two young people who have exactly the same credentials but one has some experience, and may be able to to get a good reference, I know who I would employ.
Many of us had already worked a Saturday job for a year at 16, many more had been working full time.
If the daughter had willingly worked the difficult hours offered that might have been a good platform for further work but having mum phone up on her behalf and making things awkward will do her far more harm than good where Next is concerned.0 -

I had a Saturday job at 16 and I am still working for that company whilst in education. My initial contract was only 4 Saturdays, so it is possible a further job could come out of this.
The girl couldn't work the hours offered as it would be illegal for her to do so.
We don't know what the conversation the mum had with Next, so I see that as entirely irrelevant. In hindsight, the daughter should have rang up asking for the hours to be clarified and then looked into whether what was being offered was legal or not together.
The daughter knows that she will only be working a few hours and could have said actually I'm not bothered, I wanted to do more but she hasn't.0 -
