  • Masterpark park lane do not take Amex - only visa or mastercard.

Also seem to have a problem with O2 pre-paid
  • Does anyone know if you can pay Virgin holiday account with amex ?
Virgin Holidays certainly accept the Virgin Atlantic Amex, with the added bonus of double-miles.

You are best to ask retailers directly if they take Amex, as the arrangements can keep changing (retailers can stop accepting that did before). Generally smaller retailers don't accept it as they can't afford the higher fees that Amex charge. (Unless they have specialist high end products).

While consumers can see how much the card companies / banks make in fees etc from themselves, they don't always realise just how much they cream off from the retailers / businesses. It really is a mass rip off, even more so these days when you consider that everything is done electronically. The banks aren't just trying to get you to take their cards in the hope that you end up paying them some interest, they want people to use cards instead of cash as they make so much from every transaction then.

If I recall correctly, someone posted on the forums before saying that JL accept Amex online, but not in store. I am not sure if this is still the case so it would be great if someone could clarify this. I've been wanting to use my Amex card in JL for ages.

I paid for a hire car through Virgin Holidays but landed up having to do it over the phone. The online system for card payments only accepts 3 digits for security numbers and Amex has 4. Thanks a bunch Beardie.

B&Q used to take Amex but not any more. As far as I know all the major supermarkets accept it and I'm yet to come across a petrol station - independent or otherwise - that doesn't. Even though Amex originated in the America, A LOT of US retailers don't accept it because of the high merchant fees.
  • Gap in Windsor was running 30% off from 8-11th April. Sorry I didn't post earlier, they might be doing similar at other branches,
  • Amex have recently launched a new website allowing you to request them to contact businesses who don't currently accept Amex.

(Can someone please make this a proper link - thanks)
