Also, what is the experience when it comes to credit limits offered. To earn the maximum £200 cashback during the intro period I would need to be offered at least £1,500 a month limit. Is this likely (I have a good credit history and decent income).
I got a high limit (about £10K) but this was pre-crunch.

You are not limited to your credit limit per month.
You can pay down the balance and then increase it again, so it's quite possible to use your limit many times per month as long as you are careful to allow for payment clearnace.
I used to pay my AMEX by switch and from what I remember it was credited very quickly (either same day or next day).
So once you've paid it off, you can use the limit again and again.
You can even purchase items that are higher value than your limit by putting your card in credit (although because your money is probably not insured against theft/fraud) then I would only recommend this for very short periods of time.
  • to check if xyz firm takes amexor indeed any other card, do a dummy purchase online, and getto checkout stage, to see whta card logo's are displayed..

DONT buy obviosuly, unless you really want to!

  • I had no joy with online grocery shopping with Tesco online today with my new Amex plat. Tech help told me that they only get lists of new numbers every week, so if its a new card they may not have the number yet. They said wait a week or so and try again.

Anybody had a card a while who has managed to use it online with Tesco?

I've had mine about 3 weeks and it's still not being accepted.

I have had my card since the Summer last year and have used it several times with Tesco on-line and in store. Bought 2 beds today with Tesco Direct with no problems.

  • Hi All,

Anyone here had trouble paying Tesco Direct online with AMEX?

I'm currently emailing replys from both AMEX and T Direct to each other as I asked for an explanation form each of them as to why I cannot pay with my card online.

They both seem to be blaming each other and both losing custom in the process

    Cheers

maybe something to do wit jamex numbering system? i think their cards have 15 digits (37xx xxxxxx xxxxx), most other card co's use 16..

as for firms getting lists* of new numbers? reckon thats bunkum!

i would think each card gets checked when they go for authorisation..

    * this maybe referring to stolen card alerts, but that should also flag up when getting auth..
