Even though Amex is on the 'does not accept list' Boots do take Amex.

Since having an Amex card each we have found more and more places are willing to take this. We have currently paid for our holiday with the card and even though there was a surcharge of 2% we have still gained with the 5% cash back which is great.

  • You may not be aware of this, but Amex actually deliberately avoid certain stores and target others to promote their image as a premium credit card. It is however widely accepted on the high street and online.

Also have a look at americanexpress.co.uk/selects for some special offers if you have an Amex card.

I've had mine about 3 weeks and it's still not being accepted.

Amex had a batch of cards sent out with the pins locked around feb time. They sent out a letter now about it to explain that you need to go to a bank machine first and choose 'Pin Unlock' from the Pin Services menu and then the card works fine.

I got the amex for airmile and its the most pointless card ever. You can use at John Lewis though. As soon as I get my airmiles I am closing it down. To be honest the airmile are not worth the hassle.

  • I haven't been able to buy from Tesco Online using Amex either. Tesco blame Amex, Amex blame Tesco.

Very unprofessional - so Tesco have lost a £700 sale as a result, and I'll be cancelling the Amex card too.
  • Hi,
I'm new to the forum, so sorry if this has already been posted or mentioned.
I travel quite a lot by train, and by air.
Does any know if most if not all train operators are covered by AMEX?

    Thank you,

You mean travel insurance? If so, as long as you use your AMEX card to pay for the train/plane tickets then you should be covered. Look in the Benefits booklet that came with your card or give them a ring.
