Who Does/Does Not Accept Amex?

Hopefully this year Amex should be widely accepted. The main reason most retailers did not accept Amex was the high charges(2% to 3%) that they charged retailers.
Last month they did a promotional of 1% charge which included a leaflet which mentioned that from Jan 2009 they would make 1% the standard charge for retailers. My company started accepting amex last month and intend to continue if they do not raise the charges.
I expect most retailers would also do the same as they are offered these terms.
I do not work for Amex. just in case someone thinks this is a spam promoting Amex.:beer::beer:0 -
from 13/1 ticket machines (london kings cross) don't accept amex. That's really annoying. Called Amex and they confirmed but they don't know if this is permanent. They will call me back....which makes me think that it is permanent...time for a change...
NationalExpressEastCoast stopped taking AMEX on 12 Jan 2009.0 -
Quick question - is the list in green on the main page current?
Thinking about applying for one of these cards - mainly to guarentee hotels/hire cars, and I can soon get the max cashback on it!0 -
Hi All,
I received my 5% cashback card on Wednesday and activated it straight away. When I tried to do my online shop at Tesco I got the message that payment was not accepted on this card. I checked with Amex that the card had been activated and called Tesco who said they do accept the card but it may not be working just because it's a new card.. I tried again today but still no joy. I see on the list that tesco do accept Amex but tesco.net do not so I reckon I should be able to pay for my groceries online.
Does anyone have any idea why my card is not being accepted?0 -

I got the same problem. When I tried to checkout, it keep saying "Sorry, the card you have supplied is not accepted for payment".0 -
Are you guys using the 4 digit security code from the front of the card as opposed to 3 digits on the reverse? If so, it would seem that Tesco online don't accept AMEX.0

I am.. it would seem not at the moment.0

Lush do accept Amex, at least in their stores - haven't tried online - perfect if you want to buy your missus something for Valentine's :cool:0

Also, Janson Hong (http://www.jansonhong.co.uk) accept Amex too. Again I've only tried in their supermarkets - not sure you can buy anything from their website anyway, that said?0

It used to really annoy me that places would refuse AmEx, as they didn't have a chip & pin, i hated being asked if i had another card!
Still - they finally realised that it's a necessary thing.
