Not sure about EON. People who qualify like myself have been told that their boilers don't qualify even if they are 25 years old as mine is and inefficient. I'm using N power now and have had the surveys and assessments but it is taking forever to get the boiler installed. Can't get a date out of them since everything was finalised a month ago.

Can anyone suggest whether, assuming I personally am eligible, my house with a Baxi Bermuda gas fire/backboiler system could receive a new boiler? This makes it far more involved a task than simply replacing one modern boiler with another.

I wouldn't ever replace it myself because it seems to be hugely uneconomical to do so; I'd never earn the money back. But if I can get it done for free and open up the fireplace currently filled with the Bermuda then I probably would.

    Thanks,

I have recently applied for this free boiler replacement scheme through "Greendeal Solution" which is based in Manchester, It took them just about 3 weeks to do the initial assessment and the survey and then they've agreed to replace my old "Baxi" back boiler which i assume is over 15 years old with "Ideal Logic 30kw" boiler but demanded £500 from me before they can do the job as they said it is a big job.
I wonder if any of you have ever heard of Greendeal solution before? And whether it is reasonable to pay them that amount of money to do the job for me?
I very much appreciate your opinion on that guys. Many thanks

  • I received your email about free boilers and decided to have a go, I am retired and receive pension credit.
I applied to eon who I am with and 2 days later they rang me and I had to answer a lot of questions, after which he said I was eligible. I the had to wait 4 weeks for a surveyor to come out and that was passed, then another 4 weeks until the heating engineer came.
He said my boiler was high risk of setting on fire as it was full of grease inside and disconnected it, I then had no heating and no hot water. He put my boiler through as urgent and yesterday my new combi boiler worth £2,000 was fitted absolutely free of charge, and it is brilliant. It is the best thing I have ever had off eon, I am looking forward to smaller heating bills now
I urge everyone who's retired to check whether they are entitled to any pension credit, I only get £4.50 per week but once you get it , it opens up lots more benefits' for you , Have a go and good luck.
  • Following loads of advertising for the above scheme, I attempted to apply for a replacement boiler for my 90year old mother who lives alone in a 2bedroom flat.

She qualifies under the criteria, ie : in receipt of Pension Credit.

Having gone through the process over several months, at the final stage the application has been rejected, on the grounds that the EPC doesn't indicate that there will be sufficient ' Life Time Savings' in carrying out the installation.

On attempting to get an explanation from the 'local' company advertising the scheme, and the 'agent' company who process all the applications....I've basically hit a brick wall! Nobody is either wiling to elaborate on the decision or discuss it with me!

As the existing boiler is approximately 30 years old, continually breaking down, and it must be be totally inefficient.....how can a new one not provide significant savings in respect of both expense and efficiency?

I've been unable to ascertain whether there is a right of appeal to the decision, but it would be helpful to just know the actual reasons why!

Can anyone help, or has anybody else experienced the same problems?

I want to name and shame the organisations involved , but maybe not at this moment.
  • I am still waiting. Almost 4 months since I first started making enquiries. N Power are now saying the cost of the work involved in replacing our 25 year old inefficient boiler is over their threshold and has been passed to a different department. They don't tell us anything without us asking them. We are concerned that this scheme will be dropped if it is costing the power companies too much to provide. Does anyone know if this is likely?

they may well drop you. I have gone through a similar situation with Npower and I've been told today as the cost is too high and the job too complicated (???) I can't have a new boiler. They suggest I try another company.

I had a phone call today saying they would contact me early next week after they got the paperwork from the technical survey. I thought they had that as they said yesterday the job was over their threshold and been referred to another department. I will see what happens and update any developments
