I applied to British Gas about 7 weeks ago,the surveyor completed his survey. But to date and after several attempts to call and email the survey department,I am no further forward.I have contacted the Energy Ombudsman and have to wait a further two weeks when they will take my case up.It can take up to two hours to get anyone in the survey department to answer the call.I meet all the criteria for this scheme.

    Hi,

I wonder if I can ask a question to those of you who have had a boiler installed for free under a Government scheme.

PRIOR to installation, at the time of the survey, did you sign anything? Either on paper or electronically?

    Thanks.

I didn't sign anything at the initial survey. Had the insulation fitted and signed for completion. Had the technical survey done and signed something to say we would remove furniture etc prior to fitting and that we would pay for the two extra radiators but nothing for the boiler until after it was fitted.

Why don't you get a few more quotes from other companies? Ask for the pipework to be installed "internally" rather than "externally". I didn't know BG were going to install mine externally until they did! Connected to rainwater pipe, rainwater backed up through the boiler and flooded property. Six weeks later I STILL have no heating or hot water. Seriously, I would shop around, if anything goes wrong BG customer service is appalling. My MP is now dealing with my case and I'm going to contact the Press tomorrow.

    Good Luck. :)

Did you sign anything when the surveyor came out?

I had a survey through N Power 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing since then. The whole process has been ongoing for over 2 months since I first started enquiries.

Initially went with Npower but never signed anything, did'nt want to commit myself, but then again was never asked to sign anything either physically or electronically.Neither by initial surveyor or the technical surveyor.
Cancelled with Npower who never queried as their leaflet had said there is no commitment until the offer to fit following technical survey approval was made and accepted. Then paperwork would be sent for me to sign.
Went with a local company, which I advise others to do,and only signed paperwork with them when the boiler was fitted and up and running.
Incidentally they also flushed the system and fitted a magnaclean as standard.

I have heard from colleagues who run their own businesses that are offering this free boiler service , that it has turned into a total nightmare.

One friend who runs a fireplace shop, like me has 30+ orders for the new boilers, but the energy co's keep moving the goal posts and then not telling the boiler manufacturers. My friend has had to contact customers quite a few times, asking for more info from them, as the likes of Gloworm haven't been given the right criteria.

He told me that he knows of 1 installer, who thought he would make tons out of this, who filled the forms in for the consumers, has thought they are dead certs to pass everything, has gone out and maxed all of his credit accounts, with merchants, as well as his own credit card and has not been paid a penny back yet. He has now found that he did not get some of the info needed and some consumers are sticking 2 fingers up at him now and said it is his fault.

It is not being run well at all and I can see it falling apart very soon.

A couple of weeks after our energy survey, Dyson contacted me to say EDF required more proof that we owned our property. The rep had taken a picture of the front page of our conveyance as our mortgage is all paid, but EDF required something dated within the last 18 months! Obviously we have nothing like this as the mortgage was paid up several years ago.

I posted them photocopies of the mortgage completion letter we had recieved from the building society, dated 3 years ago.

Last week Dyson phoned again to say this still wasn't acceptable to EDF - did we have anything dated within the last 18 months? Like ...a mortgage statement! "No because the mortgage is paid in full".

I have now sent photocopies of the Land Registry receipt showing transfer of title and another of the first page of the conveyance. Dyson suspect that as our property isn't actually on Land Reg (purchase ocurred before it was compulsory), that EDF will find some way to turn it down, They don't seem to accept that possession of the deeds confirms ownership :(.

  • I am in the process of applying for WTC but as they say in life "Never Assume", I stupidly thought that Like Pension Credit they would only take my net amount of earnings into account on my application, I now know it's the Gross amount (seems really unfair) & with my wife's 2 small private pensions we are just over the limit, if they took the net amount we would qualify for WTC.

Anyway my wife is 61 years old would we be able to get some help towards a new boiler.

    Many Thanks

Hi we had our boiler replaced 7 years ago by warmfront scheme. I have only read half this thread so apologies if this has been asked. The boiler was replaced with a like for like boiler, they wouldn't put a more modern system in. Ours is the old fashioned gravity fed type with a copper cistern with a cold water tank in the bedroom.
They put a radiator in the living room as we didn't have one and replaced the copper cistern with a new one.
No other radiators were replaced, they were from the 80's and we have replaced them since.
The worrying thing is the central heating pump is under the floor. This was not replaced and is from the 80's. Should this have been replaced? Thankyou in advance

Just to add, the temperature dial for the central heating
in the living room, works when it wants regardless of what temperature its set to, even when its set to off. The guy who came out to service it had no idea why this happened but didn't seem bothered.

Oh and they ruined my flooring by red hot water leaking everywhere when they were pulling the hot water through the system via the new radiator in the living room so they didn't charge the £200+ they were asking for towards fitting the boiler.

  • Hi jenny,
I just know that if someone have 10 year old boiler that had a pilot light please change it with the new boiler because the new boiler comes with the 90% efficiency, it means they can easily provide hot water and make your home warm.
