Am I missing something in this scheme? I understood it was for boiler replacement only, yet you cannot just add say a new high pressure combi boiler onto an existing 30 year old basic central heating system, it will blow some of the joints and burst pipes. You would need to replace all the pipework and possibly some or all of the radiators. These don't seem to be part of the scheme so who pays for that? How are they getting around this or are they just sticking new boilers on old systems and letting the home owner pay for any future problems with the system?0

I have applied to EON about free boilers and have had 2 surveys completed by them. The first survey said that as I had a back boiler that was rated as G rating and was over 10 years old with hardly any spare parts available that I would be entitled to a new boiler, but the second survey says even though I am entitled to a free boiler though benefits and that the boiler is efficent , because it is working that I will not get a boiler, as they only supply boilers for ones that are broken. Is this correct or should I chase them up about this ?0

Hi Jelic, I Would really like to see how your case turns out as I think I have the same setup. As mentioned above, I also backboiler and if new one is supplied, it ill need to be moved.
But with my case, the boiler is broken (well not totally broken as it just requires a service) and I left it like that on purpose so that they say I need a new boiler.
When I spoke to EON they also said the boiler does NOT have to be broken, as long as its old and inefficient then they will replace it.
Please PM or post your experience.

To date, we've had 6 surveys, (2 by the same chap who had switched firms) 4 Energy Performance Assessments, (with 2 more promised). We are supposed to be having a new Vaillant Ecotec Plus 831 fitted on Monday 23rd, by a Company that have not yet had an energy assessment done. I wait with baited breath. I've applied to everyone that would let me.
An assessor/salesman from one company told me that that as our house only had one bathroom, (we have two, & he saw them both) that we were only entitled to have a 24kw boiler fitted. He then told me that, for an extra £500.00 he would have the next size up fitted. He signed everything in his son's name as he did not have an up to date accreditation. (He actually told us that)
The first company that reaches my door with a suitable boiler,(if ever) gets to fit it.0 -
I have spoken to EON and helpful chap told me to reapply though the energy savings advice service who will contact EON and they will judge the application on the efficency and age of the boiler as my mother is 89 and on benefits, I have to wait for another survey and for the esas to get cofirmation of benefits0

I started with EON who said I met their criteria but my 25 year old 65% efficient boiler didn't. I re-applied through the Energy Savings Advice Service and have had an assessment visit and a survey visit. I am waiting to hear from N Power now to let me know if I will get a new boiler. The process has been going on for many weeks now.0 -
I've been contacted a few times about FREE Cavity Wall Insulation by a company called Energy Saving Measures and we've agreed to a survey. They are suggesting all the work is free and have drilled a few holes to check out the wall cavities.
The contractor involved in the :(Mark Group.
This sounds a no brianer if it's true, or is this just a scam that will require payment before we can do anything.
We do not qualify for any Benefits.
Any comments / feedback gratefull received.0 -
Hi,
I wonder if I can ask a question to those of you who have had a boiler installed for free under a Government scheme.
PRIOR to installation, at the time of the survey, did you sign anything? Either on paper or electronically?
Thanks.0 -
Mums boiler finally installed, hoorah.
She went with British gas. Once they got the ball rolling around 3 weeks from initial contact it was actually pretty slick.
Surveyor week 1
Call week 2 to book a delivery date and installation date.
Week 3 call day before to confirm boiler delivery and to give a 2 hour delivery slot.
Boiler all finished today and all the rubbish collected by someone as well.
The fitter was a subcontractor despite mum being told they only use BG employees for the jobs, I've been round and she is really pleased. He worked hard, started early and did not have tea breaks, drank as he worked she said. New pipework looks a bit messy to me but for free can't complain. He has put a small part of the condensing pipe outside, dispite the surveyor stating it would be inside, he has lagged it though so fingers crossed it does not freeze as it is a north facing wall.
She literally just had a boiler swap, they fitted a glow worm 330, a new room thermostat and only a small amount of pipework in the airing cupboard. She also had a full power flush done.
She has not has to pay any money at all for this as others have been asked to do.
The only thing is the installer suggested she has her gas fire in the lounge serviced as its never been done and coming back tomorrow to do it for £50.0 -

I think my mum had to sign forms with all the surveyors that came out to her, to confirm the forms they filled out were correct.0
