Thinking of applying for the free insulation, my house was build in 1999 and the attic already seems to have good insulation, but I don't think I've got anything in the cavity.
My only question is... are there any drawbacks? One thing I'm worried about is if (for example) I need to run some cables down the walls.
Also, my supplier (First Utility) don't seem to do the free cavity insulation, but other companies seem to offer it, and I guess they'd pretty much do the same job?
(edit) oops - "all new build properties from 1985 already have cavity wall insulation."0 -
It would appear that because their present boiler is oil-fired, they do not fulfil the criteria for a free gas boiler - is this correct, or are they being told fairy stories???
If they have mains gas at the property they should definitely be ditching the oil boiler straight away, regardless of funding, IMO.
I don't know whether there is funding in that situation, It may help if the existing boiler was "broken" at the time of the assessment, so that they classed as having no working boiler.
However, the cost of a private gas boiler installation is so much lower than an oil boiler installation, and gas is so much cheaper than oil, that it would probably pay for itself quite quickly even without any free funding.
All the official websites state that a replacement oil-fired boiler IS covered by HHCRO but there are two problems:
1) I've been told that the funding available is the same for gas and oil. An oil boiler is much more expensive, so less profit (if any) is available for an oil installation.
2) Some schemes are arranged with a specific boiler manufacturer and an energy provider and don't cover oil boilers. As long as the energy company can save so many tonnes of carbon being emitted, they are going to do it as cheaply as they can, and so concentrate on gas boilers.
If anyone knows of a company offering free oil-fired boilers under HHCRO funding, in North-East England please let me know!We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

- yes, help can be had from your housing association who own your property, contact them
- free boiler or insulation issues are arranged by housing associations or the local council own schemesDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hi - have you tried Warm Wales - You can contact Warm Wales Cymru Gynnes on 01639 825960 - I have e-mailed them tonight but an out of office on til tomorrow.
My dad has applied for an ECO grant with a doorstep company - his boiler broke in June and they turned up the following day - he has completed forms but just been told he'll be contacted by the assessors over a month ago now. I'm getting worried about his health - plus I just read on the site that if the house is damp they won't do anything - it's only getting damp because the process is taking so long0 -
the 100% grant does that cover the cost of scaffolding needed as i have a large garage with a pitch roof and the cannot work on it due to health and saftey0

Hi,
Can anyone advise please - after trying to progress through the Affordable Warmth scheme via the main energy supplier for my mum, on guaranteed pension credit since March 13. We registered interest with Help-Link a few days ago online, who contacted us within 48 hours, all seems good but I am concerned that in addition to other personal details given over the phone, they also want her national insurance number over the phone - prior to progressing to an assessor being booked for home visit. We telephoned the pension service today and asked their advice, they stated do not give your NI number to anyone over the phone which is what we suspected. Help-Link have insisted that they need this information and will not progress the application without it - so no help with boiler. I asked if they could contact DWP to verify instead but they said no, only NI Number would suffice. Is this standard practice - can anyone advise as it would be such a shame for my mum to miss out on this scheme when her boiler is over 20 years old and she won't put the heating on due to the costs.0 -

Theyll want the NI no over the phone as they will be able to call and check that she qualifies before sending out an assessor. If she doesnt qualify then they will cancel the surveyor.
I dont work for help link but used to work for an insulation company that did CERT work and we would do this on warmfront too.£2 Savers Club #156!
