My free boiler never materialised..the installer said the managers and funders of the scheme were not forthcoming. However they have GIVEN or SOLD my confidential details to another installer.
  • Have read the criteria to qualify, BUT still a little confused
If you are over 60 have an income of less the 15k but are NOT on any pension credit or other benefit can you still apply please?
  • Moved house this year and inherited a 15 year old boiler. Quoted circa £4k to replace by Brit Gas, who did the first service under maintenance contract. Contacted NPower as their online criteria suggested I would be eligible as I am currently on a low income. It took about 7 weeks from first EPC survey to new boiler being fitted. No contribution was required and the boiler fitting only took a morning to complete. I left it too late to enquire what boiler was to be fitted and would suggest other users enquire at the point they are told that they can have a new boiler if they wish to have another brand of boiler (possibly having to pay extra) A Baxi boiler was fitted which did not come out that good on recent Which? surveys but only time will tell. Overall a very good experience from NPower with all dealings done over the telephone.

The criteria for each energy company vary a little, but looking at the first couple, no - you need to receive an income based benefit. You may wish to check them all individually to see if any offer a boiler to you, and you could still qualify for insulation.
  • I meet the criteria but was told that my faulty boiler is not on EDF's list - they will only replace boilers on their list. Frustrating, and no further explanation. They said they would be in touch about insulation, they connected my landlord for permission etc, which was all fine, and I have heard nothing since (a couple of months). I will try e.on next I think.

the 100% grant does that cover the cost of scaffolding needed as i have a large garage with a pitch roof and the cannot work on it due to health and saftey

Your house may be classed as "hard to treat" because of the access difficulties, and you may be eligible for free insulation regardless of income. Just search online for "hard to treat insulation".

Or you could still insulate the rest of the house for free (leaving the garage out) and get the benefits of that insulation.

Sounds of interest to me, can anyone recommend a company (I'm in Grimsby)?
  • I would like to know if any of these offers are available to residents of Northern Ireland?
  • At my last service of my old Baxi boiler, the engineer advised that it was obsolete and spare parts were no longer available. I contacted the Energy Savings Trust who referred me to Citizen's Advice. They concluded that although I don't sign on and have no Income, I am not entitled to any qualifying benefits as I suspected.

As a sensible saver, I have over amassed over £16K of savings. Consequently, I don't qualify for the appropriate benefits and therefore for a boiler replacement. Despite having paid a great deal in NI and Tax into the system in the past, the system is not there for me now and seems to work against me, forcing me to erode my savings through living costs. the Benefits System, means testing. the replacement boiler scheme etc seem inherently unfair to me. However, they said I could pay for two home surveys (which can be claimed back) to try and hopefully qualify for some green grant worth £400. It's a bit of a dilemma when you live in cold Aberdeen, are not working, are at home all day but use minimal heating and your boiler is working fine. All very frustrating, potentially expensive and time consuming.
  • I thought i would be entitled to this free boiler incentive..
I earn around a £1000 a month so am entitled to nothing.......
