Where has the OP said that time to pay is an issue? Suggesting going to court to dispute something without knowing the facts (other than that the OP has at no point said they weren't speeding) is idiotic advice.

Ah, the old save face counter argument.

Its to attempt to get her husband to give her more money. Call his bluff.

    M for More Money. :rotfl::rotfl:

So... you got a speeding ticket and as punishment your husband has set you the challenge of doubling the MPG of the family car. This isn't normal behaviour.

The only way to do this 'task' is to cheat - there's no other way around it - a Mondeo just can't achieve these figures.

The OP needs to (unknown to her husband) sneak in a 5 litre or so every couple of days.

Several years ago a well known haulage company introduced an incentive scheme for the driver who increased their mpg the most.

They all tried hard but couldn't beat one old sweat who secretly just poured in a couple of jerrycans once a week that he paid for himself.

The bonus he got more than covered it.

I've a 2L mondeo and just done 425 miles on £55, so about 48mpg of which 60-70% was city driving and the last 100 miles I seemed to thrash it. Think I could have acheiv another 30+ miles if I took it easy. With super steady driving I'm betting you could acheive 55-60mpg, so about 470-500 miles on your £50 and at least another 200+ on your current 1/2 tank.

So I'm thinking it could potentially be done if you have a healthy portion of rural on your journey!!

By the way, praise to your husband. I like his style of vigilante justice.

I get the impression this isn't a one hit journey. If it was (and assuming there is fuel in it already) the best thing would be to travel through the night when the roads are quiet. Stick to the motorway, keep the heaters/radio etc off and not do more than about 60mph to maximise mpg.

    Radio off ???

I'm not disputing the ticket, nor is the paying of it a problem. He is paying that.
his speach went somthing like this " I won't leave you without a car competly because of the grandchildren" They live 100 hundren miles away and I normally see them every week. Go down on the Tuesday and travel back when they have gone to bed on the Wednesday, or go early on Tuesday and bring them Home till Friday.
I do live very rural so he knows that for the most part I will be stuck in a village of about 30 houses and a pub. Someone did have a good idea of car sharing I could do that to get shopping, there is no bus sevice here so that is out.
    What is fishing?

A sport in which people attempt to catch fish, usually with a baited hook attached to a rod and line.

Well it would save a tiny amount of fuel I guess, but you're right that is pretty extreme!
