I have no idea how many miles I get to the gallon but I need to get 700 miles in the next month and only have £50 to put in the tank.
I need tips on how to squeese every mile out of it, but how?
I don't normally buy fuel so have no idiea what it costs or how much I use, I know that it get filled twice a month on average, but I drive it pretty much how I like and don't worry about it too much.
Any tips.

What car and engine do you have?0

It needs to do 100 MPG !You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

If you happy to push it the last 250 miles or so, then you'll be fine, otherwise you need more money it really is that simple.0

Petrol you need to average 83mpg
Diesel average 86mpg
Not gonna happen in a heavy car. Buy a coach ticket with the money.0 -
not going to happen. Find alternative means of transport, and use the car only when absolutely necessary.
About the only "free" way of improving a cars MPG is to empty all unneccesary weight out of if, and inflate the tyres to a few psi above their normal pressure. however, this could have an adverse effect on grip and handling, and in some cases could make the car unsafe, so I can't recommend it.
Other than that it's down to driving style, not something that you're at liberty to experiment with at this late juncture.0 -

a) do you have any fuel in the tank at the moment? A full tank + £50 may be possible...empty tank + £50 may not be.
b) when you say you need to get 700 miles...is that all in one go, over the course of the month - are there any journeys that you could walk or cycle instead? Or long journeys you could get coaches for etc?0 -

...but it's not really an experiment, is it. Just sticking to 50mph would probably make a major difference to fuel economy. Not using the brake wherever possible would make a difference. Short shifting and gentle acceleration would make a difference. Choosing the "shortest" route rather than the fastest may well help...There's lots that can just be done without experimentation....just the above are worth around 50% more miles to me.0 -
Weird Nev has hit the nail on the head, strip the car down, unneeded seats outs, carpets, stereo, everything. Tape up the panel gaps around the car and over inflate the tyres (pretty much what car manufacturers do to get the mpg figure). Think ahead when driving so you don't need to brake so much and draft close behind lorries.
Don't forget your walking boots, a felt pen and a piece of cardboard for hitch hiking when you do run out of fuel.0 -
I get the impression this isn't a one hit journey. If it was (and assuming there is fuel in it already) the best thing would be to travel through the night when the roads are quiet. Stick to the motorway, keep the heaters/radio etc off and not do more than about 60mph to maximise mpg. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Mmmm seems some miles will have to go and I will have to decide what journeys are really impotant.
The car is a Mondeo ST 2.2 deisel.
It's not just one trip otherwise yeah taking public transport would be the answer.
If i was to drive like an old person what milage would I get with this amout of money?Ebay 13........1583.46/2000.00 Amazon sales 54/50 Etsy sales 63/50
